Huntington Learning Center in American Fork is looking for a patient, dependable tutor with experience working with K–12 special education students. You will teach students using individualized programs and curriculum prepared by our center staff. No lesson planning or take-home work is required! Your special education experience will help you support students with different learning needs, adapt your explanations, maintain engagement, and build confidence.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized instruction in reading, writing, math, study skills, and other K–12 subjects
- Work one-on-one and with small groups of up to three students
- Follow the instructional programs and materials prepared for each student
- Adjust your explanations, pacing, prompting, and encouragement based on each student’s needs
- Help students remain focused and redirect off-task behavior positively
- Review and correct student work while helping students understand their mistakes
- Record detailed notes about student performance, progress, and behavior after each session
- Alert center leadership to learning, behavioral, or programming concerns
- Maintain an organized, focused, and supportive learning environment
- Participate in required training and teacher meetings
- Maintain reliable attendance for your agreed-upon schedule
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Experience teaching, tutoring, assisting, or otherwise working directly with K–12 special education students required
- Experience with accommodations, scaffolding, positive behavior support, and students with diverse learning needs
- Patient, encouraging, adaptable, and comfortable providing firm redirection when needed
- Able to manage several students working on different assignments at the same time
- Strong written communication and attention to detail
- Dependable and able to commit to a consistent weekly schedule
- Able to pass a background check
A special education degree, teaching license, endorsement, or current education program is preferred but not required. School-based IEP development and case management are not part of this position.
Schedule and Work Environment
This is a part-time, in-person position at our American Fork learning center. Most tutoring takes place during weekday afternoons and evenings, with additional Saturday hours available. Scheduling is based on your availability and our student needs.
We provide the curriculum, student programs, materials, and training so you can focus on teaching and helping students succeed.
