Yacht service mechanic / technician Akerboom
Since 1983, Akerboom Yacht Equipment has been at the forefront of crafting custom yacht equipment, renowned for its superior quality and enduring reliability. Examples of our products are bespoke doors, cranes, platforms and hatches. Joining the Royal De Vries Group in 1986, Akerboom became integral to producing equipment for Feadship’s world-renowned superyachts. The servicing of this equipment is done both in the Netherlands and abroad with care and craftmanship.
It's services department in Florida assists clients at any time and covers all activities from emergency repairs, refits and overhauls to periodic proactive inspection and maintenance. As a Yacht Equipment technician your key responsibilities are service maintenance, installation and repair of the yacht equipment. For our location in Florida we are seeking a qualified, independently working technician.
The position would include:
- Responsible for; 1 Safety, 2 Quality, 3 Delivery as scheduled;
- Performs preventive maintenance inspections and service on equipment. Mostly in West Palm Beach, but also in other places in Florida. The States of Georgia and California are likely to generate service assignments;
- Mechanical/hydraulic service of lifting and boarding equipment aboard yachts like: cranes, passerelles, gangways, shell doors, Hydra lift systems and more;
- Mechanical service of drive lines and engine alignment;
- Commission and certify repaired equipment;
- Troubleshoot to identify and repair causes of malfunctions and work with engineers when needed;
- Assist Holland management in USA;
- Take care of workshop area and manage record keeping for inventory control;
- Assign tools for each job, check boxes after each job and restock tools and consumables, as needed;
- Assist in managing spare parts/consumable inventory and bill out to each project;
- Record keeping on lifting devices and schedule inspections;
- Assist in managing all our movable assets such as; uniforms, tools, car, trailer.
What do you need to qualify for this job:
You have 3+ years of experience as a technician in the Marine Industry. Experience with mechanical/hydraulic service of lifting and boarding equipment aboard yachts is an advantage. You are someone who takes ownership of the project and the challenge, to ensure that the work on the yard can continue at all times.
Further, you:
- Efficiently service products according to Engineering/Manufacturing documentation;
- Are able to read blueprints, diagrams, schematics (must be able to understand and service mainly hydraulic components and sometimes electrical);
- Are able to use tools and operate equipment;
- Are mechanically inclined with great problem-solving skills;
- Work well independently and with others;
- Have good communication skills. You are the Akerboom ambassador on location;
- Are organized with attention to detail;
- Have the ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment;
- Complies with the set rules and safety regulations for a safe working situation in accordance with OSH requirements.
Physical requirements:
- This job has prolonged periods of standing and walking;
- You are able to bend, stretch, pull and move as needed to reach, clean and service machinery;
- You must be able to visually inspect machines;
- Must to able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds;
Other requirements:
- You have a driver’s license;
- You have the ability to commute/relocate to West Palm Beach, FL. and are able to apply for a work Visa;
- You must be fluent in English, both written and spoken.
