The East Fishkill Public Library District is seeking candidates for part-time positions for Library Clerk. We are looking for responsible, friendly, team-orientated individuals who can join our staff in providing outstanding customer service to the patrons of the library. Interpersonal and communication skills are vital for this position as are attention to detail, patience, tact, and politeness, while still being able to uphold the rules of the library. Comfort with computers and technology and assisting patrons with technology is crucial. Successful candidates will have a genuine passion for working with and helping people. Library Clerks are directly supervised by the Head of Circulation.
Library Clerk duties include:
- Checks library materials in and out, places holds, and explains lending rules when needed
- Calculates and collects fees, makes change, and issues receipts
- Creates and updates patron records
- Assists patrons on the telephone and routes calls properly
- Performs shelving, hold retrieval, shelf reading, and general stack maintenance including dusting and wiping shelves
- Assists patrons with copiers, faxes, computers, scanning, and tech questions including Wi-Fi connectivity, air printing, digital library services
- Provides assistance with patron questions particularly regarding use of the catalog and locating books in the library
- Makes calls to patrons/other libraries for damaged items; follows up with Librarians
- Prefills new library cards and maintains a backstock
- May assist technical services department in sorting, inspecting, or processing materials
- Participates in continuing education as assigned
- Does related work as required
Position hours:
There are multiple position openings. All positions include evening and weekend hours. All Clerk positions are for a maximum of 18 hours. Applicants must include their work hour availability in their cover letter.
Flexibility is crucial and schedule may be shifted temporarily or permanently for emergency coverage or to meet library needs.
Compensation:
The salary for this position is $18.54/hr paid biweekly. Benefits include, employee assistance program, holiday pay, bereavement pay, and paid time off (sick and vacation).
Civil Service Minimum requirements:
High school diploma or GED is required. This is a civil service position. All candidates must meet the minimum requirements for placement. Experience in a library or public customer service is preferred but not required.
