Overview
The Library Assistant Teacher supports the Librarian with media center instructional activities, daily library operations, student and faculty support, collection tasks, programming, and library coverage when the Librarian is not onsite. This role helps keep the library welcoming, organized, and responsive to the needs of students and teachers.
The Library Assistant reports to the Director of Digital Learning and Technology and works closely with the Librarian, who helps guide daily and weekly library priorities.
The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, flexible, and student-centered. They enjoy working with children, communicate warmly and professionally, take initiative, and are comfortable balancing routine library tasks with occasional projects and new responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional, Programming, and Event Support
- Assist the Librarian with library classes, story times, book talks, research activities, literacy initiatives, and student support.
- Support library displays, reading promotions, Book Fair, author visits, and other events through materials, setup, logistics, communication, and follow-up.
Collaboration and Communication
- Assist with library schedules, class visits, teacher resource requests, team communication, and other library-related duties as assigned.
- Collaborate with the Librarian, faculty, administrators, and Digital Learning & Technology team to support library and school needs as appropriate.
Library Operations and Patron Support
- Support daily library operations, including circulation, shelving, holds, inventory, material processing, minor repairs, overdue notices, and accurate library records.
- Maintain a welcoming, organized, student-centered environment and assist students, faculty, and visitors with locating materials, checkout, book selection, and appropriate library use.
- Provide library coverage when the Librarian is not onsite, ensuring continuity of library services, student supervision, faculty support, and daily operations.
Qualifications
- Prior library, school, or related experience preferred.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
- Enjoys working with children and supporting literacy, student engagement, and a positive library experience.
- Flexible, dependable, proactive, and able to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team.
- Comfort with technology is helpful, especially experience with library systems, educational tools, reading programs such as Destiny or Beanstack, or basic troubleshooting, but technical expertise is not required.

Pay: $30,000.00 - $33,000.00 per year
