Overview
We are seeking a Senior Manager, Enterprise Portfolio & Investment Planning for one of our clients in Seattle. This role is contract to start with potential to turn permanent.
This role is responsible for building and managing the enterprise investment portfolio across capital expenditures and strategic operating investments. Sitting within Finance & Accounting, this position connects annual budgeting, long-range planning, forecasting and cash flow with the decisions the organization makes about where and how to invest.
This role will develop and maintain the processes, dashboards and reporting used by Finance, executive leadership and the Board to understand investment commitments, future-year impacts, portfolio performance and resource-allocation decisions.
Responsibilities
Enterprise Portfolio & Financial Planning
- Own the enterprise investment portfolio across CapEx and strategic OpEx, providing a multi-year view of spend, commitments, carryover, cash flow, and future funding requirements.
- Integrate investment planning with FP&A, Accounting, Treasury, and business forecasts to ensure current decisions are reflected in long-range financial plans.
- Surface material investment variances against budget, forecast, and approved business cases — including over- and under-spend, timing shifts, and changes in expected outcomes.
Investment Evaluation & Governance
- Lead F&A governance for annual and out-of-cycle investments, establishing consistent business-case standards, financial assumptions, approval pathways, and decision criteria.
- Evaluate investments through financial and strategic lenses, including ROI, payback, and other relevant financial measures, alongside growth, risk, reputation, customer impact, enterprise capability, and strategic bets.
- Strengthen investment discipline through business-case validation and stage-gate reviews that support decisions to approve, continue, resize, defer, pause, or stop investments.
Portfolio Performance & Rebalancing
- Monitor portfolio performance against approved funding, forecasts, timing, scope, and expected outcomes, surfacing material variances early.
- Track significant investments through benefits realization and assess whether financial and strategic outcomes are delivering against the original business case.
Executive Reporting & Portfolio Intelligence
- Build and sustain enterprise investment dashboards, reports, and decision-support tools that provide leaders with a clear view of portfolio mix, pipeline, performance, future commitments, cash flow, available capacity, and decisions required.
- Translate portfolio data into concise insights and recommendations for Finance leadership, executive leadership, and the Board.
- Strengthen portfolio intelligence by improving the data, analytics, technology, and decision records that support enterprise investment planning.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in FP&A, corporate finance, strategic finance, capital planning, investment planning or a related financial discipline.
- Demonstrated experience leading annual budgeting, forecasting, capital planning or enterprise investment processes.
- Strong financial acumen and understanding of financial statements, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and the relationship between investment decisions and company financial performance.
- Strong financial modeling and investment analysis skills, including ROI, NPV, IRR, payback, cash-flow modeling, sensitivity analysis and scenario planning.
- Experience developing multi-year financial plans and evaluating the future-year implications of current investment decisions.
- Ability to evaluate investments where financial return is one of several factors influencing the business case.
- Ability to connect financial analysis with strategy, operational needs, risk and broader business outcomes.
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with the ability to identify portfolio-level trends, dependencies, constraints and trade-offs.
- Experience developing dashboards, executive reporting and decision-support materials.
- Advanced proficiency with Excel and financial planning and reporting tools required; experience with Adaptive Planning, Power BI, D365, Microsoft Fabric or similar platforms preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial information into clear insights and recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to work across divisions and functions and influence senior stakeholders without direct authority.
- Ability to constructively challenge assumptions and bring consistency and financial discipline to investment proposals.
- Comfortable working in ambiguity and building new processes and capabilities as organizational needs evolve.
