Position Summary
Remote Alaska Solutions is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Payroll, Benefits & HR Administrator to join our growing team. This full-time position plays a critical role in supporting our employees after hire through payroll administration, benefits enrollment, onboarding, compliance reporting, employee records management, and workplace support.
The successful candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for employee onboarding, payroll processing, benefits administration, compliance documentation, and employee support throughout the employment lifecycle. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, sound judgment when handling confidential information, and the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with employees and management alike.
Pay: $25.00–$30.00 per hour DOE
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday 7:00am - 5:30pm
Location: Palmer, Alaska (In Person)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Payroll Administration
- Process weekly and bi-weekly payroll for multiple entities.
- Review and monitor employee timecards for accuracy and identify discrepancies or unusual patterns.
- Ensure overtime, holiday pay, sick leave, and other pay codes are properly tracked and coded.
- Maintain payroll records and documentation.
- Respond to employee payroll questions and explain deductions, tax withholdings, and benefit contributions.
- Ensure payroll is completed accurately and on schedule while meeting strict processing deadlines.
- Run and file certified payroll reports in compliance with state and federal requirements.
Benefits Administration & Employee Support
- Coordinate employee benefits enrollment and changes.
- Serve as a resource for employees regarding healthcare and other benefit programs.
- Assist employees with benefit-related questions and documentation.
- Communicate benefit information clearly and professionally.
Onboarding & Training
- Facilitate new-hire onboarding and orientation.
- Prepare employment paperwork and ensure completion of required documentation.
- Coordinate employee trainings and maintain training records.
- Set up and manage benefits enrollment for new hires.
- Maintain accurate employee files and personnel records.
Compliance & Recordkeeping
- Maintain employee records and personnel files in compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Assist with updating workplace policies and employee documentation.
- Help ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, payroll regulations, and tax reporting requirements.
- Assist with insurance administration, including workers' compensation and liability policies.
- Maintain and track company asset management records.
Workers' Compensation & Safety Administration
- Assist in determining whether workplace injuries are reportable under workers' compensation requirements.
- Coordinate workers' compensation reporting and documentation.
- Assist in determining whether incidents meet OSHA reporting requirements.
- Maintain the OSHA 300 Log and associated injury records.
- Assist with annual OSHA reporting requirements and record retention.
Employee Relations Support
- Listen to employee concerns and help direct issues to appropriate resources.
- Serve as an objective and professional point of contact during workplace concerns or conflicts.
- Support management with employee communications and documentation.
- Help maintain a positive, respectful, and compliant workplace environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
- 2+ years of experience in payroll, HR administration, benefits administration, accounting support, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Word.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred
- Experience with payroll processing and benefits administration.
- Familiarity with certified payroll reporting.
- Familiarity with workers' compensation administration.
- Familiarity with OSHA record-keeping requirements.
- Familiarity with AASHTOWare and State of Alaska LSS filings.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
