Accounting Manager

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to lead our accounting team and oversee the day-to-day financial operations of a growing manufacturing organization with facilities in Spokane, Washington and Arizona. This is a hands-on leadership role for a strong accounting professional who enjoys managing people, improving processes, and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
Position Summary
The Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing all accounting functions, supervising a team of up to five accounting professionals, overseeing month-end and year-end close activities, coordinating external audits, and ensuring compliance with state and local tax requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong general ledger background, experience in a manufacturing environment, and a solid understanding of GAAP, including lease accounting under ASC 842.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of seven accounting staff members.
- Manage all general ledger accounting activities and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and adjusting journal entries (AJEs).
- Maintain and administer lease accounting in accordance with ASC 842, including preparation of lease-related journal entries and reconciliations.
- Coordinate and serve as the primary contact for external auditors during annual financial statement audits and other compliance reviews.
- Prepare and file state and local sales tax returns for multiple states.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
- Review and improve accounting procedures, internal controls, and financial processes.
- Reconcile bank accounts and all general ledger accounts monthly.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or equivalent accounting experience.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Prior experience managing accounting staff.
- Strong general ledger and financial reporting experience.
- Experience with month-end close processes and financial statement preparation.
- Experience preparing and reviewing adjusting journal entries.
- Working knowledge of ASC 842 lease accounting requirements.
- Experience managing external audits.
- Experience filing multi-state sales and use tax returns.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
