The Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) is the world’s most comprehensive education, rehabilitation and service program serving individuals of all ages who are Deaf, Blind, Deafblind and multi-disabled and their families. Founded in 1858, AIDB serves more than 30,000 infants, toddlers, children, adults and seniors with hearing and vision loss throughout Alabama each year. ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Service Coordinator, you will provide case management, service coordination, and advocacy to consumers with and without sensory loss across Alabama. This role includes assessing consumer needs, developing service plans, coordinating referrals, conducting home visits, and connecting individuals with AIDB programs and community resources. You will also support the Supportive Housing Program, maintain accurate case records, conduct statewide outreach and educational presentations, build community partnerships, monitor program outcomes, and collaborate with internal teams and external agencies to improve service delivery.

You will play a vital role in the lives of AIDB consumers. You will need to be an organized, proactive professional with strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. You must also manage a diverse caseload, assess individual needs, develop service plans, and coordinate services that promote independence. As a Service Coordinator, you must be comfortable conducting home visits, traveling throughout Alabama, and building collaborative relationships with consumers, community partners, and healthcare providers. This role requires strong attention to detail, as well as the ability to maintain accurate documentation, manage multiple priorities, and meet reporting requirements. This role also requires commitment to providing exceptional customer service, expanding community outreach, supporting statewide initiatives, and continuously developing your knowledge of resources and services available to consumers with and without sensory loss across Alabama.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Basic Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Special Education, Social Work, or human services field.

Public Speaking & Training: Documented work experience in providing public speaking, presentations, or in-service training.
Preferred Qualifications

Specialized Experience: One (1) year of experience working with individuals with sensory differences.

Software Proficiency: Demonstrated experience with computers and software programs including Google G Suite, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Direct Services & Case Management

Screenings & Needs Assessment: Provide vision and hearing screenings throughout Alabama; assess consumer needs and develop individualized service plans.

Case Management & Advocacy: Deliver case management, service coordination, referrals, follow-up, and advocacy services throughout Alabama.

Home Visits & Resource Connection: Conduct home visits, coordinate appropriate services, and connect consumers with AIDB programs, community resources, benefits, and supportive services.

Caseload Management & Documentation: Maintain an active caseload, ensure timely follow-up, and maintain complete and accurate consumer documentation in DISCO.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Outreach & Case Support: Assist with participant outreach, referrals, enrollment, ongoing case management, and the Money Management Program (as needed).

Service & Resource Coordination: Coordinate services with Regional Centers, community partners, and internal departments to connect eligible participants with housing and supportive resources.
Statewide Outreach & Community Partnerships

Educational Presentations: Conduct outreach and educational presentations throughout Alabama.

Community Representation: Represent AIDB at senior centers, healthcare facilities, assisted living communities, civic organizations, health fairs, and community events.

Partnership Building: Develop strategic partnerships that increase program awareness and consumer referrals.

Schedule & Travel: Willingness to work a flexible schedule (including evenings and weekends) and travel throughout Alabama as required to provide direct services, conduct outreach, attend meetings, and represent AIDB Senior Services.

Public & Professional Relations: Ability to work with the public in a pleasant and effective manner while maintaining positive working relationships with supervisors and co-workers.

Data Management & Reporting: Collect, maintain, and report program data; prepare reports supporting quality improvement and program planning.
