SUMMARY OF COACHING POSITIONS
Paid coaching positions are granted for one-year terms. Requirements vary according to activity, but in general, the following apply:
General requirements for all coaching positions:
- Ability to establish positive, supportive rapport with student participants
- Knowledge of and adherence to all school district rules and regulations
- Professional conduct appropriate for a positive educational setting
- Supervisory and organizational skills necessary to carry out assigned duties
General requirements for coaching of athletic teams:
- Participation and/or coaching experience in the designated sport or activity
- Ability to teach the techniques, rules and strategies of the sport or activity while treating participants with dignity and respect
- Professional conduct and adherence to supervisory and organization expectations at all times
- Knowledge of and adherence to all San Juan Island School District, League, and Washington Interscholastic Activities Association rules and regulations
- First Aid/CPR, American Sport Education Program, and School District Driver's certification
- Willingness to meet WIAA Coaching Standards requirements
- Successful coaching experience at appropriate in the designated sport or activity preferred
- Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic, and language diversity a plus
- Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
- Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)
- I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
Completion of all district-required trainings within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date and annually, as required.
