We are seeking a skilled, independent CNC Setup Machinist to handle the complete setup, operation, and troubleshooting of our CNC mills or lathes. In this role, you will be responsible for independently setting up machines, selecting and installing proper tooling and fixtures, and reading or editing G-code directly at the controller to resolve production issues. You must possess advanced blueprint reading skills, a strong understanding of GD&T symbols, and the ability to interpret technical drawings accurately using standard shop math. A heavy emphasis is placed on quality control, requiring you to precisely inspect parts per print callouts using micrometers, calipers, and gauges, while also conducting first-piece inspections to verify and approve the work of fellow machinists. The ideal candidate has 3 to 5 years of hands-on setup experience, excels at autonomous problem-solving on the shop floor, and maintains accurate quality documentation.
Setup & Troubleshooting
- Set up CNC mills or lathes independently.
- Select and install tools, fixtures, and materials.
- Read and edit G-code at the controller.
- Troubleshoot setup issues during production runs.
Blueprint Interpretation
- Read complex technical drawings and blueprints.
- Interpret GD&T symbols and print callouts.
- Calculate dimensions using standard shop math.
Quality & Inspection
- Inspect parts per print using precision tools.
- Verify first pieces for fellow machinists.
- Perform in-process checks to ensure zero defects.
- Document inspection results in quality logs.
Position Requirements
- Experience: 3–5 years in CNC machine setup.
- G-Code: Ability to read and navigate programming.
- Tool Fluency: Micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Autonomy: Proven ability to troubleshoot without supervision.
- Collaboration: Comfortable auditing peer production work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Haas, Fanuc, or Mazak controls.
- Formal machining certification or completed apprenticeship.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards.
