About the Position
Natchez Glen House is looking for an experienced, hands-on landscape professional to join our growing garden team in Franklin, Tennessee.
This position is specifically for someone who already has experience with the machinery, gas-powered tools, and physical work involved in professional landscape and garden installation.
We are looking for someone comfortable operating equipment such as compact track loaders, skid steers, stand-behind mini skid steers such as Toro Dingos, riding mowers, string trimmers, blowers, and other common landscape equipment.
This is different from our entry-level horticultural assistant position. We are looking for someone who can bring existing field experience to the team and move comfortably between equipment operation, physical installation work, and the more detailed work required when building gardens.
Natchez Glen House creates highly planted residential, municipal, and commercial gardens throughout Middle Tennessee. Our work is focused on plants, thoughtful garden-making, and long-term stewardship rather than conventional mow-and-blow landscaping.
Responsibilities
- Operate compact track loaders, skid steers, mini skid steers and similar landscape equipment
- Operate riding mowers, string trimmers, blowers and other gas-powered landscape tools
- Move and place soil, compost, stone and other landscape materials
- Assist with grading and preparation of planting areas
- Load, unload and move plants and materials
- Prepare garden beds and planting sites
- Assist with tree, shrub and perennial installation
- Perform physically demanding outdoor work
- Work safely around machinery, vehicles, tools, clients and other team members
- Move between equipment operation and detailed garden work as projects require
- Help maintain an organized, professional and safe job site
Experience We’re Looking For
The strongest candidate will already have professional experience in landscaping, landscape installation, nursery work, agriculture, construction, grounds work or a similar outdoor trade.
You should be comfortable using several of the following:
- Compact track loaders
- Skid steers
- Toro Dingo or similar stand-behind mini skid steer
- Riding mowers
- String trimmers
- Backpack or handheld blowers
- Gas-powered landscape equipment
- Landscape trailers and material handling
- Basic hand and power tools
You do not need to be an expert in plants. We can teach much of the horticultural side of the work. What is more important for this position is that you already understand equipment, physical outdoor work, job-site awareness and how to work efficiently and safely.
What We Value
We are a small team, and reliability matters.
We are looking for someone who:
- Shows up when scheduled and communicates well
- Takes safety seriously
- Is comfortable working independently once given direction
- Treats equipment and tools responsibly
- Can work carefully around established gardens and client properties
- Understands that some days are fast, physical and equipment-heavy while others require patience and attention to detail
- Takes pride in good work
Our owner and lead garden designer works directly in the field with the team on our projects.
Schedule
This position can begin part-time, with approximately 10–20 hours per week depending on project needs, weather and availability.
Workdays and locations are generally scheduled in advance. Our projects are located throughout Franklin and the surrounding Middle Tennessee area.
As Natchez Glen House continues to grow, there may be an opportunity for considerably more work for the right person.
Compensation
Hourly compensation will be based on relevant landscape and equipment experience.
When applying, please include a brief description of the landscape equipment and machinery you have personally operated and your level of experience with each.
Pay: $18.00 - $24.00 per hour
