Duties
- Prepare and assemble a variety of sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese dishes with precision and artistry
- Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, food safety, and hygiene in all food preparation areas
- Develop creative sushi menus that incorporate seasonal ingredients and innovative techniques
- Manage ingredient inventory, ensure freshness, and minimize waste through efficient stock control
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth kitchen operations and timely service
- Educate guests about different types of sushi and Japanese cuisine to enhance their dining experience
- Uphold professional kitchen standards by practicing proper knife skills, plating, and presentation techniques
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Sushi Chef or similar culinary role with a focus on Japanese cuisine
- Strong knowledge of sushi preparation techniques, including rolling, slicing, and fish handling
- Culinary certification or relevant training in Japanese cooking or culinary arts preferred
- Excellent classroom management skills for training junior staff or conducting workshops on sushi making
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and proper sanitation practices
- Experience working with children or in youth programs teaching culinary arts is a plus
- Passion for creative arts such as photography, sewing, or theater that enhances presentation skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team focused on exceptional customer service
