POSITION SUMMARY
The Youth Leader Sub - ASES is responsible for taking all steps necessary to ensure the safety, security and well-being of the students they are supervising in the program. This position is a sub position that works at a variety of sites. This position is responsible for understanding and implementing all ASES and Harmonium policies/procedures at any of Harmonium’s PrimeTime Sites. Should a permanent Youth Leader - ASES position open, Youth Leader Sub - ASES will have the option of remaining a sub or moving into the Youth Leader position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintain a clean and orderly designated school space
- Supervise and ensure the safety, security, and well-being of assigned students
- Must follow all Harmonium and ASES policies and procedures
JOB COMPLEXITY
- Supervise day-to-day activities of the program while maintaining ratios within contract
- Redirect inappropriate child behavior and provide disciplinary action and notify Site Director when necessary
- Inform supervisor and provide any required supporting documentation when disciplinary action is needed
- Provide academic homework assistance
- Develop clubs, activities, and curriculum
- Provide assistance/coverage at multiple locations throughout San Diego
- Work effectively across all program service areas for Agency wide effective communication and operations
- Under HR’s direction will participate in preparing and reviewing in any legal related matters
STAFF SUPERVISION
COMMUNICATION
- Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships with school site, parents, students, and staff
- Communicate in a strength based approach with parents regarding their child on a daily basis
AGENCY LEADERSHIP
- Adhere to Program Policy Guide (PPG) and Harmonium policies and procedures
- Advance the Agency’s mission, vision, initiatives and core values within respective role
- Follow policies in own role which are determined by others; no responsibility and leadership required for service development, but may be required to comment on policies, procedures, or possible developments
DECISION MAKING
- Judgments and decisions are guided by Harmonium and program policies, contracts, and guidelines
MINIMUM COMPETENCIES
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must have 48 completed college units OR pass the District’s Classroom Assistant Proficiency Exam (a basic math and literacy exam)
- Must have a minimum of 6 months experience in either an after school program or group child care setting
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY
- Demonstrated ability in sports, special interests, hobbies, and/or arts & crafts
- Ability to relate well to children and adults
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS UPON HIRE
- Valid CPR and First Aid certification
- Valid TB results (required every 4 years)
- Must receive Fingerprint Clearance (paid by Harmonium)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to actively supervise and roam designated areas at all times to ensure a direct line of sight of all students including but not limited to:
- Standing, walking, and moving for extended periods of time throughout the shift
- In the case of elopement, or a student leaving their designated area, the ability to promptly follow and safely return the student to their designated area
- Ability to operate a vehicle
- High energy needed with the ability to balance multiple high-stress tasks
- Ability to work in noisy and outdoor environments
- Ability to travel throughout the county with the flexibility required to meet job duties
- Frequent repetitive hand use and simple grasping, i.e., desk and computer functions
- Ability to sit for prolonged period
- Ability to lift and carry up to twenty pounds
- Ability to operate a computer

COMPENSATION

Starting Rate: $20.85 per hour (all new hires begin at starting salary regardless of experience)
