Position Summary:
The Medium Voltage Electrician is responsible for installing, terminating, and testing AC and DC control wiring within electrical substations. This role supports the construction and commissioning of substation control buildings and electrical equipment by performing control cable terminations, panel wiring, and equipment connections while ensuring all work meets project specifications, safety requirements, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install, terminate, and test AC and DC control wiring for substation equipment and control buildings.
- Perform 48VDC and 125VDC (or similar) control cable terminations on relays, panels, breakers, transformers, and associated equipment.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, one-line drawings, and construction documents.
- Inspect completed installations to verify compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and applicable electrical codes.
- Coordinate with construction crews, supervisors, and commissioning personnel to support project schedules and successful system energization.
- Maintain a safe work environment by following OSHA regulations and company safety procedures.
Qualifications:
- Experience performing AC/DC control wiring and electrical terminations in substations, power generation, industrial, or utility environments.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Familiarity with substation control buildings, relay panels, breakers, transformers, and related electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical testing practices and quality workmanship standards.
- Strong commitment to safety and attention to detail.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience supporting utility or EPC substation construction projects.
- Previous experience with substation commissioning or startup activities.
- Completion of a recognized electrical apprenticeship or equivalent field experience.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, climb ladders, stairs, and structures, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, with occasional lifting of heavier materials using proper lifting techniques or mechanical assistance.
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach overhead, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements while installing and terminating electrical wiring.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and at elevated heights when required.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient to distinguish wire colors, read electrical drawings, operate hand and power tools, and perform precise electrical terminations.
- Ability to wear and work in required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, arc-flash protection, hearing protection, and fall protection equipment as required.
Work Environment:
This position is performed primarily at active construction sites for utility-scale substations and renewable energy projects. Employees are regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, dust, and varying terrain. The role requires working around energized and non-energized electrical equipment, heavy machinery, construction vehicles, and other typical jobsite hazards while maintaining strict adherence to all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and client-specific safety requirements. Travel to project sites and overtime, including weekends, may be required to support project schedules.
