Professional Geotechnical Engineer (PE)
Cape Fear Engineering, Inc. is searching for a Professional Geotechnical Engineer (PE) with experience in geotechnical evaluations, construction material testing, special inspections and project management to join our growing team. The Geotechnical team operates a US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) fully accredited lab onsite, as well as a full scope of Geotechnical and CMT services.
In this role, you’ll support a variety of infrastructure and site development projects through geotechnical analysis, field investigations, and design recommendations. You will work closely with senior engineers and project managers, contributing technical expertise while advancing your career in a collaborative and supportive environment. This is a great opportunity for an engineer with 4–6 years of licensed experience who is ready to help deliver high-quality solutions for clients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support in the field and in the office for Geotechnical projects and mentor Geotechnical Technicians in our onsite lab and out in the field.
- Execute geotechnical project assignments including geotechnical investigations, laboratory services, engineering analysis and report preparation.
- Provide recommendations for foundation design, slope stability and earthwork.
- Assist with project management and maintain communication with clients.
- Contribute to marketing and business development efforts by identifying new project opportunities, supporting pursuit efforts, and representing the firm at industry events and networking functions.
- Mentoring and training of laboratory and field technician staff as needed.
- Demonstrate professional growth, adaptability, and a positive team-first attitude while expanding geotechnical knowledge and supporting evolving business needs
Experience Requirements:
- BS/MS in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering is highly desired
- Professional Engineering Licensure for 4 - 6 years is required
- North Carolina and South Carolina Professional Engineer license, or the ability to get both promptly.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills are essential
- Knowledge of geotechnical engineering and related disciplines
- Full knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite and Bluebeam (preferred)
- Must speak and write English fluently and maintain a valid Driver's License
- Must be able to meet Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) and other military base specific access requirements.
- Ability to lift, move, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds occasionally. Additional requirements may be needed for specific sites/locations.
