Our classrooms, culture, and community partnerships are designed to ensure students are prepared to excel in college, leadership, and life.Job DescriptionEssential Duties & Responsibilities: The instructional aide provides support for students to enable access to curriculum and academic instruction throughout the school day. The instructional aide role in K-2 will support 1-2 classrooms daily, providing instructional, supervisory, and behavioral support.Essential Job Expectations: Discuss classroom learning activities with the lead teacher(s) to coordinate instructional efforts and to implement instructional programs.Provide assistance to students as required via IEP, 504, behavior plan or wrap-around team.Review and follow behavioral plans, as appropriate, and document progress or deficits in meeting goals.Provide small and whole group support to students in various subject matters Support elementary students with phonics and reading skills including providing support during diagnostic testing, small group instruction, and remedial support as neededOperate a variety of office machines and/or instructional equipment such as, copy machine, computer, laminator, telephone, etc.Perform a variety of classroom associated clerical work, such as typing, sorting, filing, keeping accurate records, setting up and maintaining file folders, recording attendance, completing forms and applications, measuring, cutting and copyingPrepare various teaching aids and materials such as charts, graphs, and other related items using such methods as typing, copying, collating, stapling and other laminatingMay call parents to arrange appointments, to provide approved information about school or studentUnderstand and carry out oral and written instructionLearn to tutor students in various subject matters and to work with students with and/or without disabilitiesBefore school, transition, lunch, and after school supervisory supportUse de-escalation strategies as necessary with students in need of a reset opportunityMotivate and encourage positive learning patterns and behavior to students with disabilities and special learning needsKeep accurate recordsDemonstrate understanding and patience toward all studentsDemonstrate confidence, tact and sound judgmentDemonstrate adaptability to changing circumstances and priorities within the learning environmentDemonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively as an educational team memberOther duties as assignedQualificationsConsistent with ESEA and other related legislation, candidates for this classification must meet the following standards: Possess a high school diploma (or equivalent) AND one of the following: * Completion of at least two years of college (48 units), OR* Attainment of an AA (or higher) degreeIOTA strongly prefers candidates who have one or more of the following: One year experience working with elementary school-aged adolescents/children in a structured environment preferredMinimum of six months working with with elementary school-aged children in tutoring, classroom, summer/camp setting requiredAny other combination of training an experience that could likely provide the desired skills, knowledge or abilities may be considered, however, experience cannot substitute for the required minimum education and a willingness to work collaboratively as an educational team memberIOTA will also provide individualized coaching for instructional aides interested in transitioning to teaching.Must be able to: Remain in stationary position for periods of time including bending, squatting, kneeling, sitting on the ground or at desks with studentsAbility to move about the campus, accompany students around the building, supporting during lunch, transitions, or dismissalRegularly needs to be able to move throughout a school building including climbing stairs, entering/exiting classrooms/building, supporting students on/off the bus as neededConstantly operates a computer and other office machinery such as calculator, copy machines, and printer.Constantly must be able to communicate and exchange information with all stakeholders through both written and oral communication.Transport or lift student as neededAdditional InformationThe wage for this position will be $16 per hour.
