North Idaho Eye Institute is looking for a Certified Scrub Technician! This role assists in the nursing care and preparation of surgical patients by performing routine and delegated tasks, including scrub duties, assisting with house-keeping duties when necessary, and assisting in processing storage, and retrieval of supplies.
Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists surgeon as scrub nurse and/or first assistant.

Drapes or assists in draping the patient.

Anticipates surgeon’s needs.

Performs as directed by surgeon.
-
Assists surgeon with dressings.
-
Abides by sterile technique principles.
-
Assists circulating nurse.
-
Sets up operating room for each case.
-
Checks proper functioning of all equipment when needed.
-
Helps with patient if directed.
-
Assists in care and maintenance of instruments and equipment.
-
Follows cleaning procedures for each.
-
Makes sure all are in good working condition.
-
Understands cleaning, lubrication and sterilization procedures.
-
Involved in cleaning and housekeeping duties.
-
Cleans furniture and tables between cases with approved solution.
-
Performs terminal cleaning procedure.
-
Assists with quarterly and daily cleaning duties.
-
Can perform disinfecting and sterilizing procedures.
-
Runs cultures on autoclave when not done by circulator.
-
Performs additional duties on a regular basis, as needed.
-
Does wrapping and packaging of supplies in correct manner.
-
Operates autoclave to sterilize instruments and supplies.
-
Re-sterilizes supplies when needed.
-
Assists with restocking of cupboards as needed.

Updates procedure book.
-
Performs other duties that may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Previous OR experience
-
Physically able to perform job requirements, i.e. patient transport, lift up to 50 lbs., and able to stand on feet for long periods of time

Actively interested in out-patient surgery
-
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing or technical certification through JCAHPO
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

Adherence to the utmost infection prevention standards in compliance with CDC, AORN, and APIC recommendations

Demonstrates knowledge of the organization, structure, philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of NICLC

Principles of aseptic and sterile technique

Knows fundamentals of anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and sterilization procedures
-
Basic knowledge of surgical procedures and how to use and take care of equipment
-
Medications relevant to eye surgery and anesthesia
-
Awareness of environmental controls
-
Knowledge of nursing skills in patient care
-
Ability to establish effective communications with doctors, patients, and staff
-
Knowledge of job descriptions of those personnel with whom he/she shares patient care
-
Able to analyze own performance and seek guidance from others
-
Demonstrates ability to obtain information on current trends and developments in nursing, outpatient surgery, and ophthalmology care

Knowledge of disaster and emergency policies and procedures
-
Knowledge of effective interpersonal relationships
