The Phoenix Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the role of School Resource Officer (SRO). This position plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and faculty across assigned school campuses. SROs serve as visible deterrents to threats, respond to emergencies, and build positive relationships within the school community.
Responsibilities:

Monitor school grounds, buildings, and parking areas during operational hours.

Enforce laws and ordinances; make arrests and manage all aspects of detainment.

Direct traffic and enforce traffic laws around school zones.

Communicate effectively via police radio, phone, written reports, and in-person interactions.

Respond to emergencies and maintain readiness for physically demanding situations.

Participate in ongoing training and maintain annual firearms qualifications.

Collaborate with law enforcement agencies to address criminal activity.

Assist in crisis management planning and emergency drills.

Deliver educational programs on safety, bullying, substance abuse, and more.

Investigate school-related incidents and maintain documentation.

Mediate student conflicts using restorative practices.

Maintain AZPOST certification throughout employment.

Conduct safety audits and threat assessments.
These temporary positions are grant funded through the Arizona Department of Education with an expected duration up to one year. These temporary positions will have benefits but will not earn city retirement credits or participate financially into the city's retirement program. Temporary positions are not covered under civil service rules, and thus employment is considered "at-will", and employees may be separated at any time.
