The Reading Public Museum is seeking a dependable, hands-on Facilities Technician to support the day-to-day care of our buildings and grounds. This role helps maintain a clean, safe, functional, and welcoming environment for visitors, staff, volunteers, and guests. We are open to candidates with a range of experience and may hire at either the Facilities Technician I or Facilities Technician II level based on qualifications, skills, and related experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform general cleaning and custodial duties throughout museum buildings, public spaces, offices, restrooms, and other assigned areas.
- Operate floor care equipment to maintain carpets and hard-surface floors.
- Set up, move, and break down tables, chairs, equipment, and related materials for events, programs, and meetings.
- Organize, store, and put away inventory, supplies, and equipment.
- Perform light groundskeeping duties, including mowing, weed trimming, and snow removal.
- Assist with general maintenance and repair projects.
- Identify and report maintenance needs, safety concerns, equipment issues, and supply shortages.
- Follow museum policies, departmental procedures, and safety practices.
- For candidates considered at the Technician II level: perform more advanced maintenance and repair work involving electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and related building systems; operate specialized equipment and vehicles, including plows, tractors, and forklifts, when trained and authorized.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Experience in custodial work, facilities support, maintenance, groundskeeping, or a related field preferred.
- For Technician II consideration, experience with building maintenance, repair work, or operation of powered equipment is strongly preferred.
- Ability to safely operate or learn to operate cleaning equipment, hand tools, groundskeeping tools, and other assigned equipment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete work in a timely manner.
- Ability to work independently on routine assignments and cooperatively with others.
- Reliable attendance, punctuality, and strong dependability required.
- Valid driver’s license may be required based on operational needs.

Pay: $14.00 - $21.00 per hour
