Florida Utility Trailers – Tampa is looking for a Certified Mobile Refrigeration Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain transport refrigeration units (TRUs) and related trailer refrigeration systems in the field. This role is ideal for a tech who enjoys independence, troubleshooting, and getting customers back on the road fast.
What You’ll Do
- Diagnose and repair transport refrigeration units (Carrier/Thermo King and CargoBull)
- Perform PM services and inspections (oil, filters, belts, electrical checks, leak detection, performance testing)
- Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration issues (A/C & D/C circuits, sensors, controllers, relays)
- Recover, evacuate, and recharge refrigerant per EPA guidelines
- Complete mobile service calls with clear notes, photos (when needed), and accurate parts/labor documentation
- Communicate professionally with customers and dispatch/service advisors regarding findings and repair recommendations
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized mobile service vehicle and inventory
- Follow all safety procedures (PPE, lockout/tagout where applicable, safe lifting/handling, environmental compliance)
What We’re Looking For
- Refrigeration certification/credential and proven TRU experience (transport refrigeration preferred)
- EPA Section 608 certification (required if handling refrigerants)
- Strong diagnostic ability in:
- Refrigeration cycle and components
- Electrical systems (12V/24V, controls, wiring, sensors)
- Diesel engine fundamentals (as applicable to TRU units)
- Ability to work independently, manage time, and prioritize calls efficiently
- Professional communication and customer-first mindset
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather and in a field/mobile environment
Requirements
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical work (bending, kneeling, climbing onto/around trailers)
- Ability to pass pre-employment screening consistent with company policy
- Basic computer/tablet skills for work orders and service documentation
Nice to Have
- Thermo King and/or Carrier certifications
- Experience with reefers, refrigerated trailers, and TRU PM programs
- CDL (not required)
- Welding/fabrication or trailer repair experience (helpful but not required)
Schedule & Work Environment
- Full-time, mobile field service based out of Tampa, FL
- Some overtime may be available during peak periods
