Drake Restoration is seeking a skilled and dependable Lead Furniture Reupholsterer with strong expertise in wood finishing and reupholstery to oversee upholstery projects in its Chatham, VA workshop. This role is hands-on and involves restoring, refinishing, and reupholstering commercial and antique furniture to a high standard of craftsmanship.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and perform reupholstering of dining chairs, including removal and replacement of fabric, padding, and materials
- Oversee furniture restoration projects, including repairs to frames, springs, and finishes
- Guide and support team members, ensuring quality standards and best practices are followed
- Measure, cut, and apply fabric, leather, or other upholstery materials with precision
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets company and customer expectations
- Maintain workflow efficiency and meet project deadlines
- Keep workspace clean, organized, and safe
- Communicate with management regarding project status, materials, and scheduling
- Drive to local communities as needed to deliver completed chairs and pick up furniture for reupholstering and restoration
Qualifications
- Proven experience in furniture upholstery and restoration required
- Strong leadership or supervisory experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to safely transport furniture
- Advanced knowledge of upholstery tools, materials, and techniques
- Exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship
- Ability to train and mentor team members
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to lift and move furniture as needed
Working Conditions
