Position Summary
The Control Room Operator is responsible for monitoring, operating, and controlling the daily operations of a utility-scale solar power plant from the control room. This position ensures safe, reliable, and efficient plant performance by monitoring SCADA systems, responding to alarms, coordinating field personnel, documenting operational events, and maintaining compliance with company procedures and safety standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor plant performance using SCADA and monitoring software.
- Identify, acknowledge, and respond to alarms and system faults.
- Coordinate with field technicians to troubleshoot equipment failures.
- Perform remote operation of breakers, inverters, trackers, and other electrical equipment as authorized.
- Monitor power generation and ensure maximum plant availability.
- Record operational events, outages, and maintenance activities in the operations log.
- Coordinate scheduled maintenance and switching activities.
- Communicate with utilities, transmission operators, and grid operators when required.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, company safety policies, and operating procedures.
- Assist during emergency situations and restoration efforts.
- Support commissioning activities and plant performance testing when required.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED (Associate degree or technical certification preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in power generation, renewable energy, utilities, or industrial operations.
- Experience using SCADA or similar industrial monitoring systems.
- Basic understanding of electrical systems and power generation.
- Strong computer and communication skills.
- Ability to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during abnormal operating conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in utility-scale solar or renewable energy operations.
- Knowledge of electrical substations, inverters, transformers, and protection systems.
Pay: $95,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
