Position Summary
The HVAC Technician supports the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Distribution Center by performing preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, and emergency response activities associated with heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and ventilation systems. The HVAC Technician is responsible for maintaining HVAC equipment in an operational condition and ensuring preventive maintenance activities are completed in accordance with contract requirements, manufacturer recommendations, and applicable regulatory standards.
The HVAC Technician serves as the primary HVAC resource supporting warehouse facilities, administrative buildings, server rooms, and associated support facilities located at Naval Base San Diego and Naval Air Station North Island.

Key Responsibilities
· Perform preventive maintenance inspections and services in accordance with contract requirements and established maintenance schedules.
· Conduct inspections of packaged HVAC units, split systems, air handling units, fan coil units, exhaust fans, blowers, ventilation systems, precision cooling systems, and window air conditioning units.
· Replace and clean filters; inspect belts, bearings, motors, electrical connections, controls, thermostats, and associated equipment components.
· Perform lubrication, operational testing, adjustments, equipment performance verification, and condenser and evaporator coil inspections and cleaning.
· Document preventive maintenance activities and identified deficiencies.
· Troubleshoot HVAC system deficiencies, equipment failures, and mechanical, electrical, ventilation, airflow, and refrigeration-related issues.
· Perform corrective maintenance and minor repair activities within the technician’s qualifications and certifications.
· Identify equipment requiring specialty repair, replacement, or subcontractor support and verify proper operation following maintenance and repair activities.
· Maintain accurate records of repairs and corrective actions performed.
· Respond to HVAC-related emergency service calls and assess system failures to determine corrective actions necessary to restore operations.
· Support mission-critical HVAC equipment and facilities and coordinate emergency repair support when specialized services are required.
· Assist in minimizing operational disruptions resulting from HVAC system failures.
· Conduct routine HVAC equipment inspections and condition assessments.
· Identify equipment deficiencies, safety concerns, and maintenance requirements and report recommended corrective actions to management.
· Support Government inspections, audits, and facility assessments.
· Comply with OSHA requirements and all Navy, USACE, DLA, state, and federal safety regulations.
· Follow all applicable environmental requirements associated with refrigerants and HVAC systems.
· Utilize required personal protective equipment, report unsafe conditions and environmental concerns immediately, and maintain safe and organized work areas.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum five (5) years of commercial HVAC maintenance experience.
- Experience maintaining and repairing commercial HVAC systems and associated equipment.
- Experience troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, ventilation, and refrigeration systems.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance inspections and services.
- Experience reading and interpreting technical manuals, maintenance procedures, and equipment documentation.
Required Certifications
- EPA Section 608 Certification.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Factory training or manufacturer certifications related to Trane, Carrier, York, Mitsubishi, Liebert, or similar commercial HVAC equipment.
- Experience supporting federal facilities or Department of Defense installations.
- OSHA 10 Hour or OSHA 30 Hour certification.
- Trade school, vocational training, or technical certification in HVAC or refrigeration technology.

- Working knowledge of refrigeration principles and refrigerant handling requirements.
- Ability to perform maintenance and repair activities independently.

Physical Requirements & Conditions
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and access rooftop or elevated equipment.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to work in mechanical rooms, equipment spaces, warehouses, and confined areas as required.
- Ability to safely operate maintenance tools, testing equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain all required DLA and military installation access credentials.
- Must successfully pass all required background investigations and pre-employment screenings.
Reporting Relationship
Reports directly to the Maintenance Project Manager.
Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
