DUTIES:
- Assists in maintaining accurate accounting records for the Berrien County Trial Court.
- Performs accounting and bookkeeping functions, including maintaining ledgers, journals, accounts, and other financial records.
- Prepares checks, vouchers, invoices, trial balances, and financial reports in accordance with established schedules, federal and state requirements, and special requests.
- Classifies and posts revenues and expenditures, reconciles accounts, and maintains Bond and Trust Accounts for cash bonds and other court-held funds, ensuring accurate receipt, disbursement, and refund processing.
- Processes and records daily financial transactions, verifies supporting documentation, enters receipts into the accounting system, and balances receipts, disbursements, cash drawers, and related records.
- Operates cash registers and computerized accounting systems.
- Provides information and assistance to customers, governmental agencies, and auditors by responding to inquiries, researching requests, and supplying financial and accounting records.
- Performs related clerical and administrative support duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Associate degree in accounting, finance, or related field and a minimum of one year accounting or finance experience; OR
- High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three years accounting or finance experience.
- Coursework or experience in governmental accounting or finance is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and access to reliable vehicle throughout the course of employment.
- A pre-employment physical, drug screening, background check, and fingerprinting are required.
- Employees are subject to random drug and alcohol testing throughout employment.
- Employees may be assigned to work in any court location throughout the county as needed.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Knowledge of computerized accounting applications and automated information systems.
