JOB SUMMARY
The purpose of the position is to perform a wide variety of duties as assigned in
maintenance of County Parks, other recreational or landscaped
areas; performs routine maintenance on buildings and facilities, landscape areas,
playground equipment, parkways; opens/closes restrooms and facilities, janitorial
cleaning including restocking of products at each facility; reports any facility
problems, vandalism or illegal activities; trimming or pruning; and performs related duties as assigned. Work is regularly reviewed by the Recreation and Parks Director through periodic conferences. The position is subject to hazards in parks and recreation work including working in both inside and outside environments, noises, and atmospheric conditions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain parks grounds by performing tasks such as mowing, aerating, seeding, trimming, shrub/tree maintenance, watering of the track, operating sprinkler systems, and flower bed maintenance.
- Maintain various park structures including general repair/maintenance of park shelters, park signs, playground equipment, and tracks.
- Maintain and carry out layout of sporting areas including baseball, softball, and soccer fields. As well as line parking spaces as needed.
- Clean and remove trash/debris from parks.
- Operate park-related equipment including lawn mowers, weed trimmers, tractors, sod cutters, trucks, snowplows, trailers, UTVs and other park maintenance equipment.
- Remove trees and shrubs; pick up trash, leaves, and other debris; and shovel snow and salt walkways.
- Clean building bathrooms, pavilions and maintenance areas, including routine building maintenance including washing windows and walls, sweeping and scrubbing floors, and painting walls and routine equipment checks.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
- Two (2) years of directly related experience or equivalent training, education, and/or experience.
- Must be at least twenty-one years of age to drive a County vehicle.
Valid state driver’s license. Must have no more than three (3) points showing on current DMV records in order to operate County vehicles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of county ordinances, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of ground maintenance practices and procedures including but not limited to field care, tree and shrubbery care, and maintenance of sidewalks/ parking areas.
- Skill in communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to use equipment and tools including but not limited to lawnmowers, UTV’s, Weed trimmers, chainsaws, trailers and plows.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communicate effectively with other employees and the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Requires work that involves standing for long periods of time outdoors, walking, lifting objects and also involves exerting in excess of fifty (50) to one hundred (100) pounds of force on a recurring basis.
The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities, depth and texture perception and color perception.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Essential functions are regularly performed with exposure to adverse environmental conditions including sleet, snow, and/or extreme hot or cold temperatures; and to light and heavy equipment and/or hazardous materials that could cause bodily harm to self or others.
