Material Handling Systems is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Crane Technician who is responsible for performing advanced inspections, maintenance, repairs, and modernization of crane systems (overhead, gantry, and mobile cranes), as well as servicing and installing commercial and industrial overhead doors.
The ideal candidate has strong mechanical and electrical aptitude, hands-on crane experience, and is willing to train further in other areas. This position plays a key role in ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant operation of customer equipment while delivering excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Crane Systems:
- Conduct advanced inspections and preventive maintenance on overhead, gantry, and mobile cranes in accordance with OSHA, ANSI, CMAA, and HMI standards.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues, including motors, wiring, brakes, controls, gearboxes, and related components.
- Lead or assist with modernization and upgrade projects to improve crane safety, reliability, and performance.
- Complete accurate service records, inspection reports, and maintenance logs in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.
- Mentor and support junior technicians, demonstrating proper techniques and reinforcing quality workmanship and safety practices.
- Service, maintain, and install overhead doors at commercial, industrial, and municipal sites.
- Assist with overhead crane and hoist inspections, repairs, and installations as scheduled.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control issues on door and crane systems.
Customer Service & Communication:
- Serve as a primary technical contact for assigned customers—explaining findings, proposed repairs, and options in clear, professional terms.
- Communicate effectively with the office and dispatch regarding job status, parts needs, and scheduling.
- Address customer concerns promptly and professionally, supporting strong long-term relationships.
Safety & Compliance:
- Maintain a strong safety-first culture, following all company safety policies, job site rules, and applicable regulations.
- Use required PPE and ensure that work areas are left clean and safe.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical or vocational training in mechanical, electrical, or related fields preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on crane service, repair, and maintenance experience strongly preferred; overhead door experience is a plus.
- Experience with overhead doors (service/installation) preferred, or a strong willingness to train in this area.
- Demonstrated mechanical and electrical aptitude and ability to read schematics and technical documentation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in the field.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.
- Crane inspection or maintenance certifications (NCCCO, CMAA, or equivalent) preferred.
- Basic hand tools required; specialty tools and equipment provided by the company.
Work Environment
- Work performed at customer sites, industrial facilities, and shop environments.
- Regular exposure to varying weather conditions, heights, and industrial noise.
- Required use of PPE, including hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, harnesses, etc.
- Travel to customer locations within the region; occasional overtime or after-hours work may be required.

Base Pay: $28.00 - $38.00 per hour
