About the Role:
The Staff Accountant supports day-to-day accounting operations across multiple entities and business lines in a fast-paced construction environment. This role ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial data while managing entity-specific and consolidated accounting activities.
This position leads key components of the month-end close process across entities, including preparation of balance sheet reconciliations and supporting workpapers, while maintaining core accounting activities such as cash, fixed assets, intercompany transactions, and loan tracking.
You’ll work closely with the Controller to support accurate financial reporting, maintain a disciplined close process, and ensure consistency across all entities.
What You’ll Do:
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
- Own and manage the month-end close calendar across multiple entities, ensuring all deadlines are met
- Prepare and review monthly balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules, and workpapers for each entity
- Prepare and post journal entries, including depreciation, cash activity, and intercompany transactions
- Ensure accuracy of entity-level financials and support consolidated reporting
- Identify, investigate, and resolve discrepancies across accounts and entities
- Assemble monthly financial reporting packages for each entity and support leadership-level consolidated reporting
- Assist with year-end close and audit support, including multi-entity audit requests
Cash & Banking
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations across multiple bank accounts and entities
- Prepare and record cash movement entries
- Support weekly payment cycles and monitor cash positioning across entities
Fixed Assets, Equipment & Financing
- Maintain fixed asset schedules by entity, including depreciation tracking
- Track equipment loan activity and maintain supporting schedules across entities
- Serve as the primary liaison with banks and equipment financing partners
- Ensure proper recording of asset additions, disposals, and financing transactions at the entity level
Intercompany & General Accounting
- Record, reconcile, and maintain intercompany transactions and balance across entities
- Ensure proper eliminations and alignment for accurate consolidated reporting
- Maintain clean and accurate general ledger activity and account coding by entity
- Support standardization of accounting practices across all business entities
Sales & Use Tax
- Prepare and file sales and use tax returns across applicable entities and jurisdictions
- Track and reconcile tax liabilities to the general ledger
- Ensure compliance with all applicable tax regulations
Additional Operational Support
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities as business needs evolve, including invoice processing, payment support, and collections follow-up
- Step in to provide coverage and support across accounting functions to ensure continuity and team success
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2-4 years of accounting experience, including multi-entity or multi-division environment
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Experience with ERP or accounting systems supporting multiple entities
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial controls, and best practices
- Experience with job cost tracking
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple entities and deadlines simultaneously
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams
- Strong problem-solving skills and follow-through
- Excellent communication skills across all levels of the organization
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced, project-based environment
