Position Overview
A specialized school serving Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students is seeking a Certified Psychologist to work as an Independent Contractor and provide comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational evaluation services.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) to ensure direct, accessible, and culturally responsive communication with students, staff, and families. This role plays a critical part in determining special education eligibility, guiding instructional planning, and supporting students’ social, emotional, and behavioral well-being in compliance with all applicable regulatory and ethical standards.
The psychologist will report to the Dean of Services.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct Communication in ASL and English
Conduct interviews, rapport-building activities, family consultations, and professional interactions directly with Deaf students, staff, and families using ASL and English as appropriate.
- Psychological and Psychoeducational Evaluations
Administer, score, and interpret a range of psychological, psychoeducational, cognitive, and adaptive assessments tailored to the DHH population.
- Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Assessment
Select and utilize assessment tools and procedures appropriate for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students, including nonverbal and visually based measures, while considering the unique developmental and linguistic experiences of ASL users.
Prepare thorough, compliant evaluation reports that clearly describe student strengths and needs, diagnostic impressions (when applicable), and specific, actionable recommendations for interventions, placement, and instructional accommodations in accordance with IDEA requirements.
- Consultation and Collaboration
Collaborate with school staff to coordinate evaluation schedules, present findings, and participate in multidisciplinary discussions with educators and Deaf parents/guardians.
Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all ethical, legal, and professional standards governing psychological practice and special education services.
Qualifications

Requirement
Certification/Licensure
Current, valid state license as a Licensed Psychologist (LP), Licensed School Psychologist (LSP), or equivalent certification.
Education
Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in School, Clinical, or Educational Psychology from an accredited program.
ASL Proficiency
Demonstrated fluency and proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), capable of conducting complex psychological discussions and formal assessments directly in ASL.
Experience
Minimum of 3+ years of experience conducting psychological evaluations, preferably in a school setting.
Expertise
Demonstrated expertise in the assessment and educational needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing children and adolescents, including familiarity with the impact of hearing loss and ASL/bilingualism on development.
This position pays from $150-$200 per evaluation
Pay: From $150.00 per hour
