UBMD Pediatrics is one of 18 practice plans within UBMD Physicians’ Group, the single largest medical group in Western New York. We provide premier health care to infants, children, adolescents and adults. In addition to primary care pediatrics, we have 18 pediatric subspecialties. General Summary: Responsible for evaluating, recommending, educating, and administering appropriate respiratory care to infants, children, and adolescents requiring treatment. Provides comprehensive, age-appropriate respiratory care for patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions, including respiratory assessments, oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, airway management, and ventilatory support. Works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and provide safe and effective patient care, while educating patients and families regarding respiratory conditions, treatments, and equipment.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
· Plans, implements and evaluates individualized care based on patient’s assessment which reflects the age of patients cared for and the specific growth and development needs of the patient.
· Explains purpose and procedure of treatment, test and equipment to the patient and patient’s family/support persons.
· Conducts physicians prescribed treatments, operating various oxygen devices, nebulizers, chest VEST, cough assist, Bpap/Cpap, home ventilators among others.
· Performs chest physical therapy treatments which may involve percussion, postural drainage and intrapulmonary oscillation. Also provides education to patients and family members on all types of chest physical therapy.
· Provides education to family members and ongoing care patients requiring mechanical ventilation and noninvasive positive pressure ventilation in the home setting.
· Performs pulmonary function testing and bedside spirometry.
· Records all pertinent information of treatments and patient response to treatment in the patient electronic medical record.
· Conducts patient report to relief personnel and communicates pertinent information to supervising personnel.
· Processes and handles respiratory therapy equipment according to policy.
· Performs patient education and community service programs.
· Provides respiratory care services to patients of all ages.
· Adheres to universal precautions, fire and safety policies.
· Participates in Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement activities.
· Maintains equipment and department in a clean, neat and orderly condition.
· Performs other related duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as may be required to meet emergencies.
Education
Associate's Degree in Respiratory Care from an accredited respiratory care program. Current and valid RRT or CRT license. Current, BLS, and NRP certification.

· Ability to handle difficult situations involving patients, physicians, or others in a professional manner.
