Litigation Legal Assistant/Secretary
The Litigation Legal Assistant/Secretary will provide office administrative support within a legal environment. We are currently a 32-attorney regional law firm with offices in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire, practicing in the area of civil litigation and insurance defense, with a focus on professional liability defense. The litigation legal assistant/secretary will work with multiple attorneys providing a full range of support. The successful candidate possesses at least 2 years recent legal litigation secretary experience.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Preparation and revision of correspondence, litigation pleadings, and other clerical assignments as directed
- E-File with state and federal courts
- File motions, including Rule 9A, with the MA Superior Court
- Scheduling depositions, hearings, meetings, and other case-related events for attorneys
- Answer phones and communicate with clients on a daily basis
- Assist with covering reception
- Run conflict checks and open new client matters as requested
- Maintain docketing for litigation attorneys
- Maintain calendars and case lists for attorneys
- Provide support for other general office administrative functions
Required Skills:
- At least 2 years recent legal secretarial experience within a law firm, providing administrative support in the litigation practice area
- Experience with insurance defense and/or medical malpractice matters is a plus
- Experience with MA state and federal E-Filing programs, including Odyssey and Pacer
- Typing 65+ wpm
- Familiarity with state and federal court rules and procedures
- Must have a solid understanding of technical legal terminology as well as court filings
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as excellent proofreading skills
- Ability to multi-task, and timely respond to deadlines as well as balance workload
- Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required
- Experience with iManage is a plus
