About the Role
Makesy is looking for a Production Planning Manager who thinks like an engineer and manages like an owner. This role owns labor efficiency across our production floor — building accurate time studies, planning headcount proactively against forecast, and creating real-time visibility into where labor is allocated and why. You'll set the standard for how we staff, schedule, and measure production labor, and hold the team accountable to it.
This is an onsite role, Monday-Friday during regular shift. Some Saturdays may be required.
What You'll Own
- Time studies & standards: Build and maintain accurate time studies for every production process; use them as the baseline for staffing and scheduling decisions, not a document that sits in a drawer.
- Labor planning: Proactively plan headcount and shift allocation against production forecasts — weeks ahead, not day-of. Overtime should be the exception you flagged in advance, not the norm you're explaining after the fact.
- Accountability to plan: Track actual labor hours against projected/standard hours by line, shift, and SKU category. Own the variance — explain it, fix it, report on it.
- Labor visibility: Stand up reporting (dashboards, NetSuite/Shopify data pulls, whatever's needed) so leadership can see in real time where labor is allocated and why.
- Floor leadership: Manage production leads/line staff day-to-day with a structured, standards-first approach — clear expectations, consistent enforcement, no ambiguity about what "on target" looks like.
- Continuous improvement: Identify and eliminate the root causes of overtime and labor waste — bottlenecks, changeover time, unbalanced lines, poor scheduling — using data, not gut feel.
- On-time delivery & fulfillment: Own responsibility for orders shipping on schedule and stocked product staying in-stock — planning is only as good as what actually gets executed on the floor.
What You Bring
- Engineering mindset — comfortable with time studies, process mapping, root-cause analysis, and data-driven decision-making (industrial engineering background a strong plus).
- Proven experience managing hourly production labor of 75-100+ in a manufacturing/production environment, ideally with direct P&L or labor-cost accountability.
- A track record of reducing overtime and improving labor efficiency, not just reporting on it.
- High personal standards and low tolerance for "that's just how we've always done it" — you enforce process because you understand why it matters.
- Strong Excel/data skills at minimum; experience with ERP/inventory systems (NetSuite a plus) and Shopify order flow is a bonus.
- Direct, clear communicator who can hold people accountable.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, shifting environment — doesn't get thrown by last-minute changes to plans driven by inbound raw materials timing or shifting customer needs; adjusts and proactively communicates with stakeholders (sales, leadership) instead of waiting to be asked.
