ROLE OVERVIEW
As an ESTIMATOR, you will be a key contributor to the success of our preconstruction team.
You will develop thorough, competitive cost estimates for heavy civil, utility, and sitework projects, helping Sullivan Eastern make smart, data-driven decisions and maintain our industry-leading performance standards.
Your work directly supports winning bids, risk assessment, and cost control, all while collaborating with project leadership, field teams, and subcontract partners.
WHO YOU ARE
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years estimating experience in heavy civil construction or utilities
- Proficient in reading and interpreting construction documents
- Comfortable with estimating software
- (E.G., HEAVYBID, BLUEBEAM, PLANSWIFT, OR SIMILAR)
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and general office software
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT, CIVIL ENGINEERING, OR RELATED FIELD
- Knowledge of regional subcontractor and supplier markets
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Strategic Estimating & Cost Planning
- Review and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for earthwork, utilities, grading, storm drainage, and related scopes
- Develop accurate cost breakdowns for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work
- Build competitive bids that align with company goals and project profitability
- Identify constructability issues, value-engineering opportunities, and risk factors
Collaboration & Communication
- Solicit quotes from suppliers and subcontractors
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, project reviews, and bid strategy discussions
- Coordinate with project managers and field leaders to understand schedule, scope, and requirements
Documentation & Accuracy
- Maintain organized estimating files and databases
- Track historical pricing, cost trends, and reference data
- Ensure all bids meet submission requirements and deadlines
