Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Behavioral Health Nurse to join our dedicated healthcare team at a small, 32-bed boutique-style residential treatment center. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive mental health and/or substance use support and nursing care to individuals across diverse settings. Your expertise will help promote recovery, resilience, and well-being for patients facing behavioral health challenges. Duties
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, mental status exams, and behavioral observations to inform individualized care plans
- Administer medications and treatments such as psychotropic drugs, IV infusions, and botulinum toxin treatments with precision and adherence to protocols
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and evaluate patient-centered treatment
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques for patients experiencing acute behavioral episodes or psychiatric emergencies
- Educate patients and their families on mental health conditions, medication management, and coping strategies to foster recovery and independence
- Document all patient interactions accurately within Electronic Health Record , ensuring compliance with medical documentation standards
Requirements
- Valid nursing license or certifcation (RN, LPN,)
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Proven experience in behavioral health nursing within hospital medicine, emergency room settings, or outpatient clinics
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems for efficient documentation and patient management
- Knowledge of psychiatric medications administration including injections and IV infusions
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Strong understanding of mental health assessments, trauma medicine principles, infection control practices, and aseptic techniques
- Ability to handle complex cases involving acute pain management, trauma response, or hospice & palliative care when necessary
- Excellent communication skills for triage situations, patient education, case management coordination, and interdisciplinary collaboration
