Become a part of a program that is internationally known for evidence-based programs, innovative work in self-control and effective coping procedures, and research. This position assists with the coordination of communication programs encompassing assessment, plan development, and evaluation of clients in speech and language including training of teaching staff in implementation strategies. The Speech/Language Pathologist will work with a supportive team that includes Special Education Teachers, Teacher Assistants, RBT’s, BCBAs, psychologists and more! The school has between 50-60 students from grade K-12, and this role is more of a consultative model with about 29 hours being consultations and there is 1 student with direct services.

Education, Experience and Special Skills:
- Master's Degree in Communication Disorders, Speech and Language Pathology or related area
- Rhode Island Department of Education Certification in Speech and Language Therapy Required
- ASHA certification is a Plus!
- Minimum 3 years of experience working with children with autism and developmental disabilities
- Must be able to read, write, and speak in English proficiently
- Professional, patient, helpful and respectful communication skills with staff, students, their families or other parties
- Ability to intervene with clients when needed to implement behavioral inventions including physical restraint and lifting
- Ability to sit, stand, lift up to 50 pounds, walk, bend, reach and/or move regularly
- Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license in good standing for at least three years
- CPR/First Aid Certification required (We provide training if needed)
- Safety Care training (We provide training if needed)
Responsibilities:
- Intervention with students 3-21 years of age to implement behavioral interventions, including physical restraint, lifting, and transporting
- Evaluation of school age students’ speech and language skills, including formal and informal testing, observation and report writing
- Complete speech and language component of IEP, including strength/needs and targeted objectives
- Write implementation plans and data sheets for each targeted communication goal
- Train staff on communication programs
- In-service families/home based workers on communication programs
- Monitor implementation of communication programs in classroom
- Complete weekly review of communication data along with written report
- Develop and maintain augmentative communication material
- Develop quarterly progress reports
- Intervention with students who may be exhibiting challenging behaviors (to self, others, or environment).
