Summary Objective: The purpose of this position is to supervise and participate in the operation of the treatment plants. Successful performance in this position ensures that the plant operates in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations. This position reports to the Public Works Director and Deputy Director.
Salary Range: $47,945 to $59,941, depending on experience and qualifications.
Essential Functions: The essential functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work in this position as necessary.
· Evaluates the SCADA system to monitor plant equipment operation.
· Schedules maintenance operations for staff.
· Communicate regularly with plant operators.
· Evaluates daily log of plant performance.
· Prepare required reports.
· Purchases plant and office supplies.
· Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and capital needs of the plant.
· Collects samples and performs laboratory tests.
· Operates sludge de-watering equipment.
· Mow the plant lawn.
· Over sees the Cleaning of the contact tank and ultraviolet disinfection equipment.
· Clean the main building.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Knowledge of the principles, practices and equipment of wastewater plant operations.
· Knowledge of hydraulic, chemical, and mechanical principles pertinent to treatment plant operations.
· Knowledge of the chemical and physical processes involved in the treatment of wastewater.
· Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in wastewater plant operations.
· Knowledge of personal computers for use in word processing and electronic communications.
· Skill in the preparation of detailed reports.
· Skill in the supervision of personnel.
· Skill in oral and written communication.
· Skill in comprehending, understanding and interpreting complex and technical information.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
· Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
· Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
· Possession of or ability to readily obtain and maintain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Physical Demands: Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
· The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Unavoidable hazards refer to job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
· The work is typically performed in an office, warehouse, stockroom, sign shop or outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
Special Certifications and Licenses:
· Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment operated
· Possession of or ability to readily obtain an appropriate state-certified license for wastewater works operations Class 2.
