DEPARTMENT: Wassaja Memorial Health Center
REPORTS TO: Medical Director
DEFINITION/PURPOSE:
Provide and dispense prescribed medications to patients of the Wassaja Health Center. Provides education and training on proper use of medications and devices.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES:
Interprets and evaluates medication orders; prepares medications for dispensing from original prescriptions; maintains records on patients and medications prescribed; reviews orders/prescriptions to determine if drug interaction is possible; advises physician and/or patient of findings; counsels patients on proper use of medications; consults with health care professionals on changing trends and findings in the drug industry; researches latest drug-related findings/information; coordinates and performs drug utilization reviews.
Maintains and monitors narcotics inventory; maintains and monitors other drug inventory; orders refills of approved medications, vaccines and narcotics; provides drug-related information to physician on alternative drugs on the market; oversees the proper storage of drugs and devices; disposes of out-of-date drugs; formulates and implements policies and procedures; develops and maintains accreditation standards; provides budget needs and participates in budget development; performs other duties as assigned or required.
Performs operation, management and control of the pharmacy. Oversees daily work duties of Certified Pharmacy Technician. Serves as an active participant in departmental performance improvement clinical staff activities, and other duties as specified.
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of drugs, drug interactions, drug dispensing policies, procedures, guidelines and requirements;
- Knowledge of approved standards for preparing, storing and dispensing prescription drugs and medications;
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical research techniques and sources utilizing books and electronic research systems;
- Knowledge of state and Federal laws and regulations governing dispensing and storing narcotic drugs;
- Knowledge of the principles of record keeping;
- Skill in the preparation and dispensing of prescription drugs and medications;
- Skill in providing instructions and education to patients;
- Skill in performing and applying pharmaceutical research findings to appropriate cases;
- Skill in effectively and efficiently maintaining a large number of patient files;
- Skill in utilizing a computer with word processing, database and spreadsheet software;
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships with other departments of the Fort McDowell Indian Community, other local, state and Federal agencies, contractors, vendors, patients, their families and other interested parties.
- Indian Health Service experience preferred but not required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION:
A licensed Pharmacist in the State of Arizona
Graduate of an accredited school of Pharmacy
BS in Pharmacy or Pharm D
AZ driver license and meets FMYN insurance standards.
PAYRATE: $106,561.69 to $127,874.03 (DOE)
