Quality Engineer – CMM Programming
Location: Shelbyville, KY
Position Summary
We are seeking a Quality Engineer with CMM programming experience to join the team of a leading manufacturer serving highly regulated industries in the Shelbyville, KY area. The successful candidate in this role will support new product introductions, production quality, dimensional inspection, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to work on precision-engineered components in a collaborative manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Support manufacturing quality through process improvement, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Develop and maintain CMM programs for production, first article, and new product inspections.
- Perform dimensional inspections using CMM equipment and other precision measuring instruments.
- Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications to develop effective inspection methods.
- Support new product introductions by developing and maintaining quality documentation, including PFMEAs, Control Plans, Process Flow Diagrams, MSA, SPC, and customer-required PPAP documentation as applicable.
- Analyze process capability and identify opportunities to improve product quality and manufacturing performance.
- Lead root cause investigations utilizing structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5 Why, and Fishbone.
- Support internal and external audits, customer quality initiatives, and corrective action activities.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations to improve processes and resolve quality concerns.
- Assist with troubleshooting and maintaining CMM programs while ensuring measurement methods remain accurate and efficient.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing variation, improving quality, and increasing operational efficiency.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of Quality Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM).
- Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint interpretation.
- Experience with quality tools including PFMEA, Control Plans, MSA, SPC, and root cause analysis.
- Experience with one or more CMM software packages such as PolyWorks, PC-DMIS, or similar.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
Preferred
- Experience in aerospace, metal fabrication, roll forming, precision machining, or other precision manufacturing environments.
- Experience with First Article Inspection (FAI) and customer-specific quality requirements.
- Knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or other regulated quality management systems.
- Working knowledge of Minitab or similar statistical software.
- Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma experience.
