Position Summary
Legend Equipment is seeking an experienced Shop Manager to lead our commercial truck upfitting operation. The Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing all day-to-day shop activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards. This individual will lead technicians, coordinate workflow, maintain a clean and organized facility, and ensure every customer vehicle leaves our shop in better condition than it arrived.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a strong background in fabrication, welding, automotive or commercial truck repair, and shop management. They possess excellent organizational skills, strong mechanical aptitude, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of experience managing a fabrication, automotive, commercial truck, or heavy equipment shop
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and installation instructions
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and general computer software
- Preferred: Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar design programs
Essential ResponsibilitiesShop Operations
- Manage all daily shop operations and workflow.
- Schedule and assign work to technicians based on skill level and production priorities.
- Ensure jobs remain on schedule and communicate delays proactively.
- Monitor productivity and labor efficiency.
- Coordinate with purchasing to ensure all required parts and materials are available before builds begin.
- Maintain accurate production schedules and status updates.
Quality Control
- Ensure all work meets Legend Equipment's quality standards.
- Perform quality inspections throughout each build.
- Verify all components are installed correctly and safely.
- Conduct final inspections prior to customer delivery.
- Ensure every vehicle is clean, complete, and customer-ready before release.
Vehicle Protection
- Make protecting customer vehicles a top priority.
- Ensure technicians use seat covers, floor protection, fender covers, and other protective equipment.
- Inspect vehicles for existing damage during check-in.
- Prevent scratches, dents, interior damage, or other avoidable incidents.
- Investigate and document any damage immediately if it occurs.
Safety Leadership
- Promote a culture where safety is the highest priority.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and training.
- Ensure proper use of PPE.
- Maintain OSHA compliance where applicable.
- Inspect tools and equipment for safe operation.
- Identify and eliminate workplace hazards.
- Ensure proper lifting, rigging, welding, electrical, and hydraulic safety procedures are followed.
Team Leadership
- Train, mentor, and develop shop technicians.
- Hold employees accountable for workmanship, attendance, and productivity.
- Conduct performance evaluations.
- Foster teamwork and maintain a positive work environment.
- Assist with interviewing and onboarding new employees.
Organization & Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional shop.
- Implement and enforce 5S or similar organizational practices.
- Ensure tools are returned to designated locations.
- Maintain organized inventory and storage areas.
- Keep aisles, exits, and work areas free of clutter.
- Oversee daily shop cleanup.
Technical Oversight
- Assist technicians with troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, fabrication, and installation issues.
- Review installation procedures before complex builds begin.
- Collaborate with engineering or sales on custom solutions.
- Utilize CAD drawings or design software when necessary to develop fabrication solutions.
Customer Satisfaction
- Work closely with sales and project management to meet customer expectations.
- Ensure completed vehicles meet customer specifications.
- Support warranty repairs and resolve quality concerns promptly.
- Maintain professionalism when interacting with customers or vendors.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift up to 75 pounds.
- Comfortable working in a shop environment around welding, fabrication, and heavy equipment.
- Ability to operate forklifts, overhead cranes, and commercial vehicles (preferred).

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
