Position Summary
The Operations Technician supports the daily operation and maintenance of Fire N Ice
Arena; a multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility featuring ice rinks and dry-floor
event space. This position plays a key role in maintaining high facility standards,
supporting event operations, preserving ice quality, and ensuring a safe, clean, and
welcoming environment for guests, athletes, tenants, and staff.
The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, mechanically inclined, and
capable of working in a fast-paced environment with varying operational demands.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Ice Operations
- Operate ice resurfacing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain high-quality ice conditions through resurfacing, edging, flooding, and monitoring ice temperatures.
- Assist with hockey and skating setup, including goals, protective padding, glass systems, and rink accessories.
- Monitor arena refrigeration and ice-making systems and promptly report operational concerns.
- Support seasonal ice installation, removal, and maintenance projects.
- Assist in maintaining locker rooms, benches, and rink-side operational areas.
Event & Dry Floor Operations
- Assist with facility conversions between ice and non-ice events.
- Set up and remove staging, flooring, seating, courts, tables, chairs, barricades, and event equipment.
- Support concerts, tournaments, public skating sessions, graduations, trade shows, community events, and other arena programming.
- Ensure event spaces remain safe, functional, and presentation-ready.
- Assist event staff with operational needs before, during, and after events.
Facility Maintenance
- Conduct routine facility inspections and identify maintenance needs.
- Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance on building systems and equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and appearance of operational, public, and back-of-house areas.
- Assist with grounds maintenance, snow removal, and exterior upkeep as needed.
- Report significant maintenance, equipment, or safety concerns to supervisors.
Safety & Guest Services
- Follow all OSHA regulations, facility safety policies, PPE requirements, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Respond to spills, hazards, and emergency situations promptly and professionally.
- Provide courteous assistance to guests, teams, officials, vendors, and event personnel.
- Support facility emergency action plans, incident reporting, and evacuation procedures when necessary.
- Promote a positive guest experience through professionalism and customer service.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to learn and safely operate ice resurfacing and facility equipment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and general maintenance knowledge.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight facility conversions.
- Ability to lift, push, and carry up to 75 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in arena, ice rink, sports facility, or event operations.
- Experience with refrigeration, HVAC, mechanical, electrical, or building maintenance systems.
- Forklift and/or scissor lift certification.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
- Experience operating commercial maintenance equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting.
- Ability to work in cold environments for extended periods.
- Ability to safely operate tools, machinery, and motorized equipment.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in a fast-paced environment.

Work Schedule
This is a part-time position with an anticipated schedule of 20–25 hours per week.
Work hours may vary based on facility programming, events, tournaments, public
skating sessions, change-overs, and other operational needs. Evening, weekend,
holiday, and occasional overnight work may be required.
