This is a full-time 8 hours/ 1 FTE per day position on the CL-196 calendar (196 days per full school year), working Mon-Fri. Three vacancies.
The 3 positions will be at: Awbrey Park Elementary School, Howard Elementary School, and Edgewood Elementary/Spencer Butte. Please note that the particular school assignments could change over time, depending on student health needs.
The Students Health Aide provides first aid, CPR, minor illness care, and medication administration for the school community under the direction of the district Registered Nurse. Position requires a high level of responsibility and independence, working as a team with the Registered Nurse, staff, and administrator. The Students Health Aide (SHA) functions under the direction of the licensed Registered Nurse as “unlicensed assistive personnel (UAP)”, and the scope of practice, activities, and duties of the Student Health Aide are defined by and are subject to the Nurse Practice Act in the State of Oregon. The SHA may be required to perform delegated nursing tasks in accordance with Oregon laws and district policies.
Essential Functions

Health Room Support

Provides basic first aid to students who become ill or injured during the school day.

Staffs the school health room and monitors students until they return to class or are released to a parent/guardian.

Prioritizes needs of students presenting with health concerns.

Supports communicable disease protocols, including following ODE exclusion guidance.

Administers medications according to district policy and Oregon state law.

Documents student visits, treatments, and health concerns accurately in district systems.

Performs delegated nursing tasks such as:
-
Diabetes care tasks (blood glucose checks, carbohydrate counting support, insulin administration under delegation, monitoring symptoms)

Catheterization assistance
-
Tube feeding assistance
-
Assists the registered nurse with monitoring students with chronic health conditions and implementing Individualized Health Plans, such as seizure management and anaphylaxis response plans.

Performs other duties as assigned by Health Services Supervisor and overseeing Registered Nurse.
Communication
-
Communicates with families regarding minor health issues, injuries, or medication needs following district guidelines and under the direction of the registered nurse.

Notifies the supervising registered nurse of student health concerns requiring follow-up or assessment.

Maintains confidentiality of student health information and complies with district and state regulations related to health services.
Compliance and Safety

Maintains a safe, clean, and organized health room, including performing inventory checks, ordering supplies, and ensuring all necessary equipment is available and operable.

Promotes healthy habits in the school environments through proper hand washing, environmental decontamination, and other precautions per the district’s rules and policies.

Supports school-wide emergency preparedness, including first aid kit maintenance and assisting during school emergencies.

Participates in required trainings, including delegation training, first aid/CPR, medication administration, trauma-informed care, and emergency response procedures.

Ability and willingness to complete required district health trainings annually.

Ability to lift and position students, carry supplies, and lift up to 40 pounds.

Ability to remain standing, walking, bending, or sitting for extended periods in a school or health room setting.

Ability to effectively communicate, disseminate, and effectuate verbal or written communication and directives to a diverse group of administrators, staff, and the broader district community.

Education

High School diploma or GED

Current First Aid and CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
Experience
-
Experience working with children/adolescents in a school, medical, or childcare setting

Six months experience providing health care support in a health care facility; OR
-
Completion of a vocational training program in a health care support area (e.g., Medical Office Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant).
Must successfully pass pre-employment physical capacities exam
