About the Opportunity
Dexter is seeking an experienced Human Resources Business Partner to support and serve as a trusted partner to leaders and employees. This position provides strategic direction and tactical oversight for human resources functions for the component (Upfit) facilities within Dexter. This role blends hands-on execution with process improvement across employee relations, compliance, performance management, training, benefits, compensation support, and HR operations.
This HR Business Partner will promote the company’s vision, mission, cultural principles, and commitment to safety through maintaining up-to-date knowledge of HR best practices and legal requirements, demonstrated actions and communications among multisite locations.
What You Will Do
- Lead day-to-day HR support for the Corporate leadership of Dexter Upfit while partnering with facility HR teams as needed.
- Ensure ongoing monitoring, compliance and maintenance of human resources policies, procedures and employment records to meet organizational needs and comply with local, state, and federal laws.
- Develop and recommend any policies and procedures that address plant human resources needs that are not covered within the scope of company-wide policies
- Stay current on employment laws, government reporting requirements, and HR best practices.
- Advise managers and employees on employee relations, performance management, and policy interpretation.
- Actively maintain satisfactory labor relations between management and employees, while ensuring protection of company interests and rights.
- Participate in or lead workforce investigations related to employee complaints, injuries and suspected misconduct and communicates with management and legal counsel regarding human resources related litigation as needed.
- Support plant HR partners with recruiting systems, job postings, and process questions.
- Plan and deliver new hire orientation, compliance training, and training tied to quality system requirements.
- Maintains and manages administration of employee compensation systems that are legally compliant, competitive, and aligned with company financial, hiring, and retention goals.
- Coordinates salaried performance management process and merit-based pay increases.
- Ensures HR systems and records, including those related to personnel, compensation, and benefits are accurate and properly maintained.
- Maintains adherence to effective Workers' Compensation administration practices
- Develops, implements and administers effective and efficient training programs to meet plant goals and employee development needs.
- Assist with workplace accident reporting, including OSHA and insurance carrier documentation.
- Recommend practical improvements that increase HR efficiency, consistency, and service quality.
- Manage assigned HR projects, communications, exit interviews, and backup support for HR team members when needed.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience will also be considered.
- Must have 7+ years of progressive HR experience in a generalist, manager, or similar role.
- Working knowledge of employment compliance, employee relations, performance management, and HR administration.
- Experience training managers and employees on HR systems, expectations, and processes.
- Sound judgment, discretion, attention to detail, and the ability to handle sensitive information professionally.
- Strong communication, organization, critical thinking, and follow-through skills.
