Job Description
The Operational Language Analyst performs tasks required to process voice and/or graphic language materials in support of SIGINT Operations. This position offers multiple career entry and progression levels based on education, language proficiency, and professional experience.

Required Skills
All Applicants Must Demonstrate
One (1) year of experience typing on an English-language keyboard
Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Skill Level validation (specific level determined by position level) from the required language(s) into idiomatic, standard American English. Scores from the NSA Civilian Language Test of Record, valid at time of resume submission, may be used as acceptable validation for text translation and audio translation skill level(s). ILR skill level validation shall be documented within two (2) years prior to resume submission.
Level 1 – Entry Level Operational Language Analyst shall demonstrate the following cryptologic language processing skills:
Recovering essential elements of information
Rendering translations and/or transcripts based on straightforward, factual written and/or spoken material
Gisting straightforward, factual written and/or spoken material
High School Diploma, General Equivalency Diploma (GED), or equivalent from other countries
Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Skill Level 2 in Audio Translation Performance and/or Translation Performance from the required language into standard American English
Two (2) years of professional experience in cryptologic language processing
For at least one (1) of the two (2) years' experience, translating and/or transcribing, and gisting shall be the primary duties
Level 2 – Intermediate Operational Language Analyst shall demonstrate the skills of the lower level plus the following cryptologic language processing skills:
Translating and/or transcribing complex and sophisticated written and/or spoken material
Gisting complex and sophisticated written and/or spoken material
Associate of Arts (AA)/Associate of Science (AS) degree, or equivalent from other countries
In lieu of the Associate's Degree, an additional two (2) years of directly related, applied, practical work experience may be substituted
Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Skill Level 3 in Audio Translation Performance and/or Translation Performance from the required language(s) into idiomatic, standard American English
Four (4) years of professional experience in cryptologic language processing
For at least two (2) of the four (4) years' experience, translating and/or transcribing, and gisting shall be the primary duties
For no more than one (1) year of the required four (4) years, reporting shall be the primary duty
Two (2) of the four (4) years' experience shall be within four (4) years of resume submission
Level 3 – Advanced Operational Language Analyst shall demonstrate the skills of the lower levels plus the following cryptologic language processing skills:
Scanning and sorting/categorizing foreign language materials
Performing quality control review of translations and/or transcripts of complex and sophisticated written and/or spoken material
Bachelor of Arts (BA)/Bachelor of Science (BS) degree, or equivalent from other countries
In lieu of the Bachelor's Degree, an additional four (4) years of directly related, applied, practical work experience may be substituted for a total of fourteen (14) years' experience
Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Skill Level 3 in Audio Translation Performance and/or Translation Performance from the required language(s) into idiomatic, standard American English
Six to ten (6-10) years of professional experience in cryptologic language processing
At least three (3) of the six (6) years' experience in the required language(s) shall be in translating and/or transcribing, and gisting
At least one (1) of the six (6) years' experience in the required language(s) shall be in performing quality control review of ILR level 3 audio translations and/or text translations
For no more than three (3) of the required ten (10) years' experience, reporting shall be the primary duty
One (1) of the six (6) years' experience in the required language(s) shall be within six (6) years of resume submission
Level 4 – Senior Operational Language Analyst shall demonstrate the skills of the lower levels plus the following cryptologic language processing skills:
Transcribing complex and sophisticated spoken material and translating complex and sophisticated written material
Gisting complex and sophisticated written and spoken material
Performing quality control review of translations and transcripts of complex and sophisticated written and spoken material
Bachelor of Arts (BA)/Bachelor of Science (BS) degree, or equivalent from other countries
In lieu of the Bachelor's Degree, an additional four (4) years of directly related, applied, practical work experience may be substituted for a total of nineteen (19) years' experience
Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) Skill Level 3 in both Audio Translation Performance and Translation Performance from the required language(s) into idiomatic, standard American English
Fifteen (15) years of professional experience in cryptologic language processing
At least five (5) of the eight (8) years' experience in the required language(s) shall be in translating and/or transcribing, and gisting
At least three (3) years' experience in the required language(s) shall be in performing quality control review of both audio translations and text translations at the ILR level 3
For no more than seven (7) of the required fifteen (15) years' experience, reporting shall be the primary duty
One (1) of the eight (8) years' experience in the required language(s) shall be within six (6) years of resume submission
