Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate clinical staff, including nurses, medical assistants, and support personnel, ensuring adherence to best practices and organizational policies
- Oversee patient care activities, including assessments, medical documentation, medication administration, and vital signs monitoring
- Manage clinical workflows within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth to ensure accurate documentation and compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Facilitate staff training on EMR systems, infection control protocols, and clinical procedures such as IV insertion, catheter care, and sterile processing
- Conduct regular audits of medical records for accuracy and completeness; ensure compliance with NCQA standards and other regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop discharge planning strategies and coordinate long-term care or dementia care plans for patients with complex needs
- Lead quality improvement initiatives focused on patient safety, infection control, acute pain management, and utilization review to optimize clinical outcomes
Experience
- Proven management experience in a healthcare setting with demonstrated leadership in nursing or clinical supervision
- Extensive clinical background with critical care experience such as ICU or Level I Trauma Center environments; familiarity with Level II trauma center protocols preferred
- Hands-on experience working with EMR/EHR systems like Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth; proficiency in medical documentation and ICD coding (ICD-9/10) is essential
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, and medical terminology relevant to acute care, hospital medicine, emergency medicine, or pediatrics
- Experience managing teams in diverse settings including hospital units (medical-surgical, ICU), outpatient clinics, assisted living facilities or home care environments
- Familiarity with specialized areas such as dialysis procedures, ventilator management, spinal taps, cardiac catheterization procedures or neonatal ventilator use is advantageous
- Demonstrated ability to perform patient assessments involving vital signs measurement, physical examinations, specimen collection/processing and triage protocols
- Working knowledge of healthcare regulations including HIPAA compliance and NCQA standards; experience with utilization review and utilization management processes is highly valued
