- Set-up and operate production machines in accordance with established procedures and guidelines. Take all necessary steps to ensure that work product meets specifications and customer requirements.
- Confer with and work effectively and efficiently with other team members and the team leader in coordinating operations and activities within the work area or department.
- Review work orders, specifications, blueprints, mill schedules or instructions to determine such things as raw materials, feed stock, procedures, sequence of operations, machine settings, specifications, quality requirements, etc.
- Identify setup specifications and procedures and needed items such as plates, rollers, feed guides, gauges, etc.
- Examine, inspect, and measure raw materials or feed stock to determine conformance to requirements.
- Perform set up of equipment include control settings, feeds, speeds, temperature, tolerances, and so on.
- Ensure all systems are set (e.g., controls, valves, lubrication) and begin startup cycles.
- Operate equipment as needed for efficient operation.
- Monitor production process to assure product remains within specification. Inspect work product and equipment to detect defects or malfunctions.
- Record and adjust as needed operational data such as temperatures, feeds, speeds, pressures, processing times, etc.
- Adjust machine controls/ components to regulate speeds, feeds, thickness, pressures, temperatures, lubrication, quantity or amounts, dimensions, etc. to avoid any quality issues or defects.
- Inspect product and take samples in accordance with standard operating procedure.
- Perform small or minor machine maintenance, such as lubrication, cooling and ventilation systems, and cleaning. Change worn machine accessories, as needed. Make small or minor mechanical repairs and adjustments to machines as needed. Notify team leader or maintenance when major service is required.
- Operate material handling equipment (e.g., hoists, cranes, fork trucks, hand trucks) as necessary.
