Position Overview
GEMCO is seeking a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to support and optimize our manufacturing operations. This role focuses on improving equipment performance, refining production processes, and implementing engineering solutions that increase efficiency, quality, and throughput.
The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical background with real-world experience in fabrication, machining, and industrial equipment. This role works directly with production, engineering, and leadership teams to design, troubleshoot, and continuously improve our manufacturing systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and improve mechanical systems, equipment, and manufacturing processes
- Analyze production workflows to identify inefficiencies, delays, and waste
- Implement Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives (5S, Kaizen, etc.)
- Support fabrication processes including machining, welding, and assembly
- Collaborate with shop floor teams to troubleshoot equipment and production issues
- Create and modify CAD drawings (AutoCAD/SolidWorks) for equipment and tooling
- Evaluate and recommend new equipment, tooling, and technology upgrades
- Assist with installation, commissioning, and validation of new machinery
- Monitor production metrics and establish KPIs for efficiency and quality
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and industry regulations
- Train staff on new processes, tools, and equipment
- Support ERP system usage for production tracking and process improvement
- Manage or assist with engineering projects, timelines, and deliverables
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (required)
- Master’s degree (preferred)
- Manufacturing or Lean certifications (preferred)
- 3–7+ years of experience in manufacturing or mechanical engineering
- Hands-on experience with CNC machining and lathes, Welding and fabrication, Mechanical systems and shop environments
- Experience in industrial equipment or heavy machinery (strongly preferred)
- Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma (Green Belt preferred)
- Experience with ERP systems (required)
- Project management experience (preferred)
Technical Skills
- Must be proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks and able to provide a portfolio of work demonstrating experience (REQUIRED)**
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and equipment design
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing principles (5S, waste reduction, continuous improvement)
- Ability to read, interpret, and modify technical drawings and blueprints
- Data analysis and process optimization skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
