Zachry Nuclear Engineering (ZNE) is seeking an experienced Engineer V, Mechanical to join our growing engineering team in Stonington, CT, Charlotte, NC, or Perry, OH.
At Zachry Nuclear Engineering, our engineers support some of the nation's most critical energy infrastructure through engineering design, plant modernization initiatives, system modifications, equipment upgrades, and technical consulting services for commercial nuclear power clients.
As an Engineer V, Mechanical, you will serve as a senior technical contributor responsible for solving complex engineering challenges, guiding project teams, mentoring engineers, supporting utility clients, and contributing to strategic engineering initiatives. This role provides an opportunity to influence engineering solutions that improve plant safety, reliability, and long-term operational success across the nuclear industry.
Position Summary
The Engineer V, Mechanical independently performs advanced engineering and design activities supporting commercial nuclear power plants and related facilities.
The successful candidate applies advanced engineering knowledge and professional judgment to resolve complex technical issues, lead major engineering assignments, and develop solutions to challenges impacting plant safety, reliability, operability, and regulatory compliance.
This role serves as a senior technical resource for project teams and clients while providing technical leadership, mentoring, and oversight. The Engineer V contributes to engineering excellence, proposal development, project success, and organizational growth through the application of specialized technical expertise and sound engineering judgment.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
Experience
Technical Knowledge
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, methods, and practices.
- Strong understanding of engineering codes, standards, regulatory requirements, and nuclear industry practices.
- Ability to develop, review, and approve complex engineering analyses and technical products.
Expertise evaluating plant systems, equipment performance, and engineering solutions.

- Experience utilizing engineering software and technical analysis tools.
Mathcad experience preferred.

Nuclear Industry Experience
- Commercial nuclear power plant engineering experience.
- Experience supporting major plant modifications, modernization initiatives, uprates, or capital projects.
- Experience serving as a Responsible Engineer, technical lead, or subject matter expert.
Experience supporting utility clients within an engineering consulting environment.

- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.

Additional Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access to commercial nuclear power facilities.
- Ability to pass applicable security and drug screening requirements.
- Ability to travel to client sites and support periods of field and office work.
- Ability to perform plant walkdowns in industrial environments, including climbing ladders, accessing security-controlled areas, and entering confined or controlled-access areas.
Ability to work overtime when required to support project and client needs.
