To achieve our mission, we provide a wide range of programs for low- and moderate-income residents, including Adult Education & Workforce Development, Financial REACH Center, Early Childhood Education & Care, Energy Programs, Food & Nutrition Programs, and Housing Programs.
Position Overview:
To provide outreach, recruitment, intake, case management, education and employment counseling to a diverse caseload of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students, and also to advise students in our MassSTEP Quickbooks course and CNA Program. This person will work as a team member to ensure that the program is operated in a well-coordinated, coherent, and effective manner.
Position Responsibilities (not all inclusive):
1. Provide educational counseling and support services to students enrolled in ESOL classes.
2. Provide employment counseling and job development services to identified students.
3. Conduct outreach to potential students; develop and disseminate flyers and other marketing materials; respond to phone inquiries about programs and meet with walk-in applicants.
4. Process intakes for all applicants to the ESOL program, including initial interview and assessment; coordinate with teachers and program director to ensure appropriate placement into classes.
5. Conduct orientation for prospective ESOL students, ensuring that students understand all program requirements and procedures.
6. Monitor student attendance and follow up on excessive absences; identify potential barriers to attendance and completion of program.
7. Assess students using QCAP Integrated Service Delivery protocols and assessment tools, make appropriate referrals and develop student plans per below.
8. In conjunction with the other ESOL advisor, maintain a waiting list for ESOL classes; monitor class enrollment and place students into classes as slots become available.
9. Coordinate with teachers, other ESOL advisor, and Program Director to ensure that ESOL students are assessed according to program schedule and that students advance to the next instructional level as appropriate.
10. Meet one-on-one with students to set individual goals and create self-sufficiency plans; monitor and document progress toward achieving goals.
11. Assist students in transitioning to appropriate next steps such as further education and training or employment.
12. Recruit students for career readiness workshops and one-on-one career counseling. Arrange workshop presenters.
13. Develop and maintain relationships with local employers in order to assist students with securing employment.
14. Maintain proper documentation of counseling sessions with students; maintain all student records and files; provide timely and accurate entry of required information into DESE LACES database and internal QCAP database.
15. Advise and assist approximately 15 students who enroll in our Quickbooks Accounting Certificate program in conjunction with Quincy College. (Fall semester)
16. Advise and assist one class of 10 participants in our CNA program. Work with Quincy College on this initiative, and help the students prepare for employment at the end of the program. Screen and enroll students in this program, and follow-up with them to ensure they gain employment with one of the program’s employer partners at the finish. (Spring Semester)
17. As a mandated reporter, adhere to QCAP’s employee handbook Suspected Abuse and Neglect policy.
18. Participate in staff meetings.
19. Participate in professional development activities as appropriate and/or required.
20. Perform additional duties as required.
Candidate Qualification:
1. Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
2. Minimum of three years of relevant experience working with adults from diverse backgrounds required; previous experience in DESE funded adult education program preferred.
3. Experience with placement and assessment using the TABE 11/12, TABE Clas-E, BEST Plus 3.0 and MAPT preferred, but training can also be provided.
4. Bilingual in Spanish or Haitian Creole preferred, but not required.
5. Familiarity with community resources in the South Shore area.
6. Strong computer skills, including data entry, organizational, interpersonal and presentation skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks.
7. Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently.
8. Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of students and staff.
9. Commitment to working on behalf of low and moderate-income people.
