- Individualized Education Programs (IEPs): D evelop, implement, and monitor highly
individualized IEPs for each student, serving as the case manager and outlining
specific academic, social, behavioral, and functional goals that celebrate their
strengths and guide their growth.
- Curriculum Adaptation and Instruction: Thoughtfully adapt and modify general
education curriculum content, methodology, and performance criteria to meet the
unique learning needs and styles of each student.
- Structured and Supportive Learning Environment: Create a nd maintain a highly
structured, individualized classroom environment that fosters safety, well-being, and
o ptimal learning for all students.
- Progress Assessment: Continuously observe, evaluate, and assess student
p rogress based on work output, observations, and formal assessments. Utilize this
d ata to celebrate achievements, refine teaching methods, and update IEP goals,
ensuring continuous growth.
- Functional and Life Skills Development: E mphasize teaching crucial daily living
skills, empowering students with the tools for greater independence in all areas of life.
- Behavior Management: I mplement positive behavior interventions and supports
( PBIS) and other effective strategies to foster a positive and productive learning
environment.
- Collaboration and Communication: W ork closely and effectively with:
- Parents/Caregivers: Maintain open communication, provide support and
guidance, and actively involve them as vital partners in their child's educational
journey.
- Paraprofessionals: Manage and provide direct oversight to classroom
p araprofessionals, ensuring they effectively support student activities, personal
c are, and instruction.
- Other Educators and Support Staff: Collaborate with general education
teachers (for inclusion opportunities), speech therapists, occupational
therapists, physical therapists, psychologists, social workers, and other agency
personnel to ensure a comprehensive continuum of services tailored to student
needs.
- S chool Administration: R eport to supervisors of special education and
building principals, keeping them informed of student progress and program
needs.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate attendance records, assessment documentation,
progress reports, IEP forms, and other necessary documentation with attention to
detail.
- Professional Development: Actively engage in ongoing professional development to
stay current on best practices, cutting-edge research, and advancements in special
e ducation, continually enhancing your expertise.
