Experienced Optician – Full Time

Texas State Optical North Spring is seeking a friendly, dependable, and experienced optician to join our patient-focused practice. We provide comprehensive family eye care along with specialized neurovisual care for patients with binocular vision dysfunction, headaches, dizziness, double vision, and other complex visual needs.
This position is best suited for an optician who can contribute quickly in frame styling, optical sales, measurements, adjustments, and dispensing. We can provide training in our ordering systems, laboratory processes, vision-plan procedures, and specialized neurovisual lens protocols.
Schedule
This is a full-time, in-person position expected to work Tuesday through Saturday.
Saturday availability is required. Saturday hours are 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Primary Responsibilities
- Help patients select frames that fit their prescription, appearance, comfort, and lifestyle
- Recommend appropriate lens designs, materials, treatments, and coatings
- Explain lens options and patient costs clearly and confidently
- Accurately calculate vision-plan benefits and patient responsibility
- Take accurate optical measurements, including PDs and multifocal fitting heights
- Adjust, repair, fit, and dispense eyewear
- Inspect completed eyewear for accuracy, quality, fit, and appearance
- Troubleshoot adaptation concerns, fit problems, prescription questions, and possible remakes
- Enter and process eyeglass orders accurately
- Communicate with optical laboratories and follow outstanding jobs through completion
- Maintain organized patient orders, work areas, frame boards, and optical supplies
- Learn the practice’s specialized procedures for high-precision prism and neurovisual lenses
- Communicate clearly with patients, the doctor, technicians, and front-desk team
- Take ownership of assigned tasks and follow problems through to resolution
Qualifications
- Previous optical dispensing experience is required
- At least one to two years of directly applicable optical experience is strongly preferred
- Ability to independently adjust, repair, fit, and dispense eyewear
- Working knowledge of common lens materials, multifocal designs, coatings, and measurements
- Strong frame-styling, customer-service, and sales skills
- Comfortable explaining recommendations and helping patients make purchasing decisions
- Accurate, organized, and attentive to detail
- Dependable and able to work independently when needed
- Comfortable learning new software, laboratory procedures, and specialty products
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- ABO certification is welcomed but not required
- Experience with VSP or other vision plans is helpful
- Experience with prism or specialty lenses is helpful but not required
- Bilingual English/Spanish ability is helpful but not required
Compensation
$19–$24 per hour, depending on directly applicable optical experience and demonstrated ability.
Candidates who can independently manage optical sales, lens recommendations, measurements, adjustments, dispensing, and troubleshooting will qualify toward the upper portion of the range.
Additional opportunities may be available as the employee becomes proficient in ordering, laboratory coordination, vision-plan processing, and specialty neurovisual eyewear.
