THE ROLE
As Head Teacher, you will lead all aspects of classroom operations, creating a safe, structured, and inclusive environment for young learners. You will design and deliver developmentally appropriate curriculum and enrichment activities, while supervising and coaching Assistant Teachers to ensure high-quality care and education. In addition, you will foster an engaging atmosphere that supports children’s social, emotional, and cognitive growth, and collaborate with leadership to maintain program excellence and compliance with standards.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Lead the planning and delivery of developmentally appropriate curriculum that supports children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth
- Supervise, coach, and develop Assistant Teachers to ensure high-quality classroom instruction and care
- Conduct developmental screenings and assessments (including DECA) to identify needs and support early intervention
- Monitor children’s progress and coordinate referrals for therapeutic and early childhood support services as needed
- Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that reflects diverse backgrounds and experiences
- Build strong partnerships with families by communicating regularly and encouraging involvement, while supporting program activities and special events (including field trips and seasonal programming)
WHO YOU WILL BE
You will hold a BA/BS in Early Childhood Education or a related field
You will bring hands-on classroom experience with demonstrated ability to supervise and guide staff
You will have a strong understanding of child development theory and early childhood practices, particularly for infants and preschool-aged children
You will demonstrate the ability to plan, organize, and implement engaging learning experiences both independently and collaboratively
You will be knowledgeable and responsive to the unique needs of families in shelter settings
You will have bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish (preferred)
